Hi,

I have an opportunity to pick up a 625 Mountain gun in 45 ACP. I plan to use it in competitions, not for toting around in the field. My question is, does anyone know the weight difference between the mountain version and the standard version? My concern is recoil control.

Thanks,

TG

Sir, the weight difference isn't much, just a few ounces I think, but the balance difference is significant. For comp shooting, the additional weight and forward balance of the lugged barrel would be preferable.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Agreed, the balance is way difference in favor of the full lug being easier to shoot. Regardless, I always grab the mountain gun because it is more challenging to shoot. It's also the one I carry in the field because it is lighter. Buy the Mountain Gun if it doesn't have the internal lock. You'll be glad you did.

My 625 SAC Mountain Gun weighs 35 ounces. I no longer have a 4" or 5" full lug configuration, but my 3" 625 weighs one ounce more than the Mountain Gun. Overall feel and recoil recovery are very different. I shot my Mountain Gun at a major USPSA match and my hand was bloody at the end. Recoil is very hard on the inside base of the thumb, especially at 165 PF. I do not recommend it for match use, except for maybe IDPA where the round count is lower and nobody seems to know what a chronograph is. Occasionally I shoot .45 Super equivalent through it, but only two cylinders full at a time.
