627 Pro it is here!!!!

I do not know what guns are running in everyones neck of the oods but the 686SSR and 627 PRO are $699.00 the PC 5" 627 is $899.00 and the JM PC625 4" is 699.00...these are all NIB.....

thomasinaz, Did you install your night sights??? I have a 2.5" 686-3 that I had sent off and had the front sight cut off and installed night sights front and rear thru tooltech gunsights... I want to order some meprolites that comes with the front blade and the rear sight...Is the rear sight hard to install??? do you need a special tool or just a screwdriver??

panamajack; Sorry it took so long but I've been out of town for the last week. If your gun has a red insert front sight, they aren't hard to install and come with pretty good directions. (The older Smiths have a "permanent" mounted front sight and if no red insert it does require some extra professional work.)

You only need a correct fitting screwdriver for the rear blade removal/install. And a center punch to peen the end of the windage screw once it's screwed in place.

The front requires something sharp to dig out the red insert material (on your existing front sight blade). It's just plastic and comes out pretty easily. Meprolight recommends lock tight for installing the front insert, in the space left by the removed red ramp material. I use a permanent type lock tight. Then I use a small punch to place a little dimple on the top edge of the blade, where the insert meets the blade itself. The blade material is very soft metal and dimples easily.

I've used these sights on two revolvers for duty use and they hold up well. Both have had the rear blades knocked into hard surfaces occasionally, while moving around boats and vehicles etc, and they haven't shown any trouble from this.

How do you like your 627. I thought mine would be here after my trip but still waiting.

thomasinaz,
I ordered a set of meprolite night sights...They should be here this week....I love shooting the gun...It is very smooth and falls back on target with no effort due to its weight....I think the best thing about the gun is the quick loads ith the moon clip...I recommend you spend the $30.00 and get the thicker moon clips from http://moonclips.com/
you will not be sorry....they are a little sterdier than the factory moon clips....

An alternate school of thinking I've subscribed to is to order 100 of the factory moon clips for $75 from Ranch Products.

Sit there in front of the tv for an evening loading them, and you're good to go for 824 (100+3) rounds.

Smithand Johnson,

Sorry man, been off the PC a few days due to work, just in and out.

Go to Smith site and look under new products at left. The 627 Pro will pop up, about half way down the page, below the 60 Pro and 686 Pro.

Differences between it and the 627 PC 5" are:

Duh, one is 5" and one if 4"
PC gun has grooved barrel top, Pro is plain bead blast
PC gun has ball detent, Pro does not
PC has gold bead standard, RR/WO standard on the PRO
PC has PC case, Pro has S&W blue box

Other than those, and yeah am being a little goofy, I don't see other differences from those I have handled or from descriptions. One final difference, the Pro does not come with the 2 moonclips standard in the PC case

. I was wondering if Panama got clips with his? Ordered 5 of them from moonclips.com for me as I heard they were thicker anyway and easier to use. Will advise on that one, got email they shipped to me yesterday.

Hope this helps.

I had been eyeing the 5" PC for awhile but the barrel was just too long to put in a pancake and pack under a loose shirt for my body. The 4" however, fits like a glove and it is accurate, accurate, accurate. I have Hogue RB no finger groove wood on it now but am replacing it with an even thinner set of woods. Only other mod I will do on this one is get the gold bead and then that's it, all will again be right in my world.

Just my .02 but I hope this helps.

Wow! What a nice gun at a nice price. I just picked up a 686 yesterday and am really impressed with the trigger, fit and finish. I traded in a POS Taurus Tracker for it. What an amazing difference!

Anyway, congrats! Do we get a range report?

I will have to post some more pics...I had the gun sent to tooltech gunsight to have some night sights put on the gun so I can carry it on duty....

Nice gun. I like the fact the the starboard side of the barrel doesn't have the goofy ".357 Mag-8 times" rollmark like my 627PC.

Can you give more info on your Night Sight conversion. Brand, Cost, Installation.

I think I am going to order a S&W 627 Pro. Even though I really had my eye on some 686 pre-locks. With a list of $995, I'm hoping my dealer can do $700. 30% off list.
