627 pro series questions

Im new to posting on here but im looking to see who has had a 627 pro series and what the pros and cons of the gun. I plan on getting one because I like the N frame as im a big guy and I already have a 29-3 in 44mag. I like the idea of a 8 shot 357 but does it require moon clips all the time? Are there better moon clips. Any insights help. Im sure if more questions arise I will ask later. Thanks

You can shoot the 627 Pro with or without moon clips. Although you'll want to separate your brass according to head stamp if shooting moon clips. Winchester brass will take a thin moon .020 Remington and Federal brass will take .022 or .025 moons. TK Custom makes a clip just for Starline brass.

TK Custom http://www.moonclips.com/ and Revolver Supply make quality moon clips and either one will have what you need. Both are GREAT outfits to deal with....their products and information are the BEST.

I like mine. I have not separated any brass yet and have no problems due to the slop factor but I am not using it for competition.

Thanks for the info Batmo. I will be looking into them and ive also found a demooning tool. 9mmsubgun-m11 does the "slop" you talk about bulge the brass. That was my other question was wondering if the brass gets bulged when not using moon clips. Thanks

The slop he's referring to is wiggle in the rounds when in a moon clip. Happens when mismatching the brass with the clip but will not cause bulging brass. And I've never had any bulge in my 357 brass due to not using moon clips.

Oh, and I love my 627 Pro.

Fun gun to shoot, but I sold mine because it wasn't idpa friendly and already own a 686 and 65.

Golf club handles make really good demooners. A friend gave me an old 4 iron and with a pipe cutter, dremel tool and file I now have a demooning tool that will hold 8 empty cases.

RaginRog thats to bad you sold it. was there anything else you didnt like.
Batmo. ive been hearing alot on golf club demooners. i will have to look into it. $30 bucks i can save towards the gun.

I've had mine for two years & love it. I do not shoot any competition, so moon clips were not an issue for me. Used the S&W-supplied moon clip once, didn't like it, had no need to use it, never used it again.

I'm not a great handgun shooter, but this gun made me shoot better than I expected. It seems to be more accurate than me. Everyone who has shot it is impressed with it. I've made no changes to it. The factory grips work for me, the trigger is great in single action and smooth in double action.

All pluses for me. I have no downsides for the way I use it. I suppose it has the potential to be a bit heavy for carrying all day, and a bit big for a carry gun, but since I do not carry, those are not considerations.

Exactly! While they are not necessary I like being able to throw 8 in at a time. Liked my 627 4" Pro Series and 627 2.5" Performance Center so much I had to buy the 929 Performance Center. Spent a little too much this year but I will only live once.

What is the difference between the pro series and performance center of the 627 besides barrel lenght and unfluted cylinder. Internals?

Batmo, great idea. Just bought a 627 PC. First time with moonclips. Didn't really want to buy one of those clip tools. Thanks...

Since I am in no hurry to load more rounds, I simply didn't see any need to spend the same or more time loading a moon clip in advance, then removing the cases from the clip when done. Just extra steps that aren't necessary for my shooting time. Nothing against anyone who does use them.

Absolutely nothing I didn't like about it. Great sturdy shooter. If I hadn't gotten into games or if there were more USPSA matches nearby I would have kept it. I just really wanted a M&P pro. It is a much better gun than the M&P pro, I am man enough to admit that.

Check out the moonclips and moonclip loader at the revolver supply company. Easy to use, does a good job of demooning as well.

I really love mine. When I got it the trigger was horrible. I did a little work on the action and mounted a Burris Fastfire III on an Allchin mount. Definitely one of my favorites.
