Hello all, some years back I traded my Ruger Redhawk 7 1/2" barrel for a 629 deluxe. To be honest I always kinda regretted that trade. I was no longer deer hunting with a revolver like I did. In my younger days when my group of friends would have a pistol pull the first day of doe season. I dropped more than a handful of deer with Rugers over the years.
I figured a 3" 629 would be a great woods revolver. However the grips would bite me with full magnum loads and I'm a wood grip kinda guy so rubber hogue replacements never happened. I've never been much of a fan of the red ramp sites. And don't even get me started on the whole ugly lawyer lock thing! But I threw it in the safe and there it stayed until recently.
I recently acquired a very nice 629-3 that was shot very little and came with the original box. Shooting that gun convinced me to not give up on the 3" but rather fix the things that bothered me. So I ordered and installed a set of meprolight sights. Ordered a set of grips from the guy in Thailand. And got a lock delete kit. I went from disliking this gun to it now becoming my go to woods gun. Here's how it looks after it's "makeover".
