This past week I purchased a 629 Classic. I was night when the range called and said the gun was in. I did not look at it closely but the following day I began going over it. The rear sight adjustment screw was boogered and although it contained a one spent cartridge the front of all cylinders were black. I looked in the bore and there were strecks of lead and copper. From the appearance of the side plate screws, it looked like the plate was remove. I removed the grips and saw light tap marks on the grip indicating the plate was probably removed. I returned it to the range and was told this was not uncommon from S&W, their quality was really gone down. He said that since I am the registered owner, I should take this up with S&W. Has anyone had these issues and what is my next step. The distributor he bought it through is in Baton Rouge, LA. Any help would be appreciated.

send an email to [email protected], explain your concerns. Someone will respond. I have found that S&W stands behind their work, for the most part. I had a small issue with my new M&P in January, they wanted to look at it so they sent a pre-paid Fed-Ex label and I shipped it to them, got it back in 2 weeks with 2 new mags included.

I had a question about my 642 last year and exchanged 2 emails the same day.
