I traded into this .44 Backpacker today at a show in Muncie Indiana. It looks exactly like my 3" Trail boss except for the trail boss logo. Anybody know if there are any differences?

I think they're basically the same. There are minor difference even between one batch of BP's to the next. Same for the TB. Flutted or non flutted cylinders. Mag-Na-Ported or not. Matte vs. brushed finish. Different grips. I think certain distributors had "naming rights" to certain models. That might be it - who sold them. You could kinda lump the Mountain Gun in there too.

Were there two spec ord codes? 4106 and 4263?

The first number, 4106, is the spec ord number. The second number, 4263, was used over-and-over on many box labels in the '92 thru '94 time frame. I don't know what, if anything, it stood for.

I have a Mountain Backpacker that almost looks exactly like that except I have a non-fluted cylinder. Fun guns to shoot, but they have some real kick. All the factory Mountain Backpackers serial numbers start with MBPxxx. What I haven't been able to figure out is if the magna port was a factory job.
