Hey folks I was checking the force of the hammer on the firing pin by using the pencil trick. In DA mode pencil made it halfway out of the barrel. In SA mode it popped right out completely. Is this normal?

A test like this is quite subjective and really means very little since the hammer nose does not contact a resilient material like the eraser to fire the gun. What you observed, the pencil being moved farther when the hammer is dropped in single-action compared to double-action, is normal. The hammer falls significantly farther in single action and strikes the primer with more energy than in double-action. In either mode the hammer energy is more than adequate to fire the primer.

When doing this take note of hammer position when released by the trigger. You will see that the hammer is significantly farther back when cocked for single-action than when it is released in double action!

Sounds normal to me. What Alk8944 said about the length of the hammer fall being quit a bit shorter in double action mode is correct.
