629 PC (.44 mag x 7.5") rear sight issue

Yesterday evening I got a STEAL of a deal on a Smith and Wesson factory demo 629 PC (Performance Center .44 Magnum / Special with the 7.5" barrel, sku #170181).

List price was around $1400. I got this gun, which is in immaculate condition, for half of that. So now, ironically, I paid signifigantly less for the nicest gun I now own than I paid for some of my other guns. OK, enough bragging about the deal.

There is but ONE little problem with the gun...the rear sight is lose. I am talking about the vertical piece that has the actual sight notch in it, the thing you look through and line up the front sight with. I hate to ask a stupid, fundamental question, but how do I tighten that guy up?

*edit* Just as I was going to submit this post, I picked up my 686P and noticed that its rear sight blade is a tad lose also, although not as lose as my 629's. Maybe this is somewhat normal? I also noticed that on the 629, the white stencil lines are not lined up with the actual cutout, the white box is shifted left enough that I can clearly see it.

This is a 629 Light Hunter. It came with an aluminum attache case and is from the Performance Center.

That's my baby. Mine still has the presentation grips but my dealer threw in a set of Hogue's for me. Real decent guy.

I haven't shot it yet. Does that comp help a lot under full 300 grain magnum load? Also, have you found a way yet to clean real good inside the comp?

Can't give you any tips in regards to the compensator, don't own a gun with comp and don't desire to, they are too loud.

However, the loose rear sight blade is normal for the S&W adjustable sight, so don't worry about it. They've been using this design longer than I've been alive and it's not a problem. It will hold it's zero and it will still be rattleing and holding zero long after both of us are worm food.

I have the same gun. Comp is damn near useless IMO but the rest of the gun is so nice I don't mind a bit. It's not as obtrusive as other comp guns I've shot. A glock 9mm comp is the sinus killer I recall disliking the most. This big magnum is easy to shoot.

I've been shooting 200-260 grain bullets through it and it handles them all very well. If you're going to go big, just get a 500, it pushes the big lumps SO much better it ain't funny.

I've put 500 jacketed and over a thousand cast bullets through mine and I've cleaned the comp twice. Meh.

It's a sweet gun. I've yet to shoot another 44 I like better.

The sight blade rides on the threaded shaft of the adjustment screw so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I also won't waste the time to clean the comp, it'll never be a problem and there's less chance of doing damage to the gun by leaving it alone.
A friend of mine is OCD and cleans the port on his power port 686 & 629 after every shooting and he has the ports all marked up by virtue of his cleaning with whatever he thinks is needed to make it look like new. Now I consider them ruined.
