Howdy all,

I've been having a problem with shooting my Model 638 Airweight at the range. The cylinder release latch keeps whacking my thumb between the knuckles under recoil. When I shot it yesterday, the checkering along the bottom edge hit me enough times that it drew blood.

Any suggestions to keep this from happening? I'm contemplating grinding off the checkering along the bottom edge of the latch, but I'd like to try adjusting the nut behind the trigger before blaming the gun.

Thanks!

Can you revise your grip positioning? That might not be easy to do....I shoot my j frames with stock grips and no grip adaptors. I have to use a different grip placement than I use on any of my larger wheelguns or my semi autos. That might not be tactically smart, but I try to practice often with my carry guns, especially since I recently retired

A different set of grips might alleviate the problem, and be an easier solution. What grips are on your 638?
