I've had my 642-1 since around 2000. I actually bought it for my wife but she never really got to like it so it has kind of laid around the safe for most of these years. I'd take it out and shoot a few rounds now and then. It has fired off maybe 500 rounds or less total. Including maybe a half box of +P ammo.
About a year ago I got to looking at the gun and thinking it might make a good pocket gun. So, I put in my cheap $7 pocket holster, stuck it in my pocket and immediately fell in love with it. Now, after about 6 months of practice it has become my main carry. $7 holster and all.
Now after all that my question.
My 642-1 is not marked +P. In a email to S&W customer service I asked why it was not marked with a +P.
They answered with a simple " Because your 642-1 was not tested with +P ammo at the factory. So, We cannot recommend using +P ammo."
I take that as, We can't recommend. But, it's still a 642-1.
If it wasn't a 642-1, then it would be something else?
What you think??
As a side note, I'm not a real fan of +P anyway. Just like to know cause I still got that other half box of +P ammo.
