My new 642-1, out of the box, has a pretty serious ding on the muzzle. This should have never left the factory in this condition. What is S&W's service phone number? I need to talk to a person and send my new gun back for repair, even before I've fired a single shot.
Thanks.

Thanks. I just talked with S&W service and they are sending me a prepaid UPS label for the return. As many state here, their service is much better than their QC. We shall see.

wow, thats sucks. oh yea, in case you didn't see in the other thread, thanks for the advise about tomball pawn, I picked up my 642-1 sat.. very nice people and very nice prices. thanks again.

LSX, glad I could help. I've done a lot of business with Tomball Pawn and they are always more than fair in their service and prices.

Sorry to hear about your 642 claygrazer. I hope SW takes care of the problem. I picked mine up on Friday and looked it over real good. Luckily there were no finish issues whatsoever. So far I've put about 200 rounds through mine since I got it. Nice pocket gun. I'm glad I picked it up.

A member on another thread said he returned his 642-1 for some minor service and it came back with a nice trigger job for free. That's service!

I just recieved an email from S&W on shipping insturctions via UPS. I guess I need to find a UPS store front to ship the thing. This is all new to me.

Check on this: When I shipped a S&W in on their dime, all it took was a phone call to UPS and they came by and picked it up from my house.

Turns out I can't drop the gun off at a store front. I have to take it to a UPS Service Center, or have them pick it up. The Service Center is less than 10 miles from my work, so I'll take it there tomorrow. Picking up a gun from work could lead to a whole bunch of inconveniences.

Was it new? There is an owner's manual in the box with the revolver and the phone number and address is in the book. Also, the factory has a web site. Their contact info is on there as well.

I sent my buggered 642-1 to S&W on Wednesday 7/30 and they recieved it on Thursday 7/31. I was very surprised when I got home on Thursday 8/7 to see an attempted delivery of the gun by UPS. No one was home to sign for it, so they will attempt to redeliver today. I had asked S&W to email me with tracking information when they mailed the gun back, but they did not.

I guess I just missed the 2 week vacation delay. I'll report the quality of the repair when I have the gun in hand.

The errant child was delivered on Friday 8/8. The dinged up barrel was replaced with a new barrel; you can see the turn marks on the frame where the barrel screws in. The underside of the top strap just above the forcing cone now has a pretty healthy scrath, but I can live with that. There was no "extra" work done, like a nice trigger job. Overall, the work is satisfactory with very good turn around.

Now I get to go shooting!
