I have a 642. I understand that the fixed sights on it are "set" to place a certain type of bullet dead center in the target at a certain distance. Can you tell me what round and what distance?

(Trying to search for this info didn't yield an answer).

Thanks for your help.

To a certain extent, it's going to depend on your shooting style. I practice with 158gr cast lead target loads and those are very close to point of aim. I carry 129gr +P HydraShoks and those are also quite close to point of aim...

So my answer is: buy some of each thing you're considering, and have a good day at the range!

You really will need to try different bullet weights/velocities with your gun to find out what it likes. Most consider the 158gr bullet to be the standard weight for .38 Special but I've owned many .38 Special guns that shot to point of aim with 125gr bullets.
