OWB holster found - see post # 8 & 9 below

There are days I need to have my 642 outside my pants in a secure holster. I found this one on the Bianchi site.

Does anyone carrry a shrouded hammer in a holster with this type retaining strap ? Is it really secure ? Does it provide a smooth unlock and draw. ? The catalog page says to use your middle finger for the unlock.

I have a friend on another fourm who uses that exact holster. He likes it alot and finds retintion very good on it. The strap takes some getting used to b/c of location but I dont see where it would become a issue.

Take a look at the Silver Dollar Pancake on the Simply Rugged site.

In the summer I pack a hammerless S&W on the ranch, on horseback, ATV and anywhere in between with no worries about security.

There isn't much risk of a gun grab in that scenario, but it works well for strenuous activities.

You might want to check out the Blackhawk Speed Classic. It's only made for the small J frames and uses an elastic system to hold the gun really secure, no straps to release or screws to adjust. There's a You Tube video on it if you do a search. Optics Planet sells it for $29.

Not sure what your price range is or if you prefer only leather or polymer material construction found in other injection molded holsters. Blackhawk has a good (reasonably priced) Serpa retention that I have use in Iraq with no complaints. Personally I am not one for retention straps, but that is my opinion. A search on the forum will return a plethora of holsters used by forum members. A little research and I am sure you will find a very nice holster to suit your needs. We have some real nice custom holster makers out there and if you are looking to spend a little less, here are some sites to start with.

You might check out the Galco CTS160B,it handles all J frame hammer options.Center line strap and retention screw-Optics Planet $55 & change with free shipping. Very satisfied with mine.

Thanks fellows. I decided on the Blackhawk Speed Classic, sill $29 at Optics Planet. I watched the video on you tube and it looks like the elastic front panel will work well.

I had a few minutes to get a couple photos. The Blackhawk holds the unit in tight with the butt against the body.
