I have 2 questions concerning a newly acquired 645.

First - can anyone help me with an approximate date of manufacture? The serial number begins with "TBT1". I know I have to get the S&W book, but if anyone can look that up for me I appreciate it!

Second: I've come to understand there are 2 style of magazines for this gun, with & without a black plastic pad on the bottom. Can it be determined what would have come with the gun when it was shipped?

Thanks folks - pics to follow when I get a place set up inside to do it. The weather is still kind of crappy here!

Hello Kevin,
TBT dates to approx 1988. I bought my 645 new in 1988 and it came with 2 orange follower magazines without a black pad on the base plate.

congrats on your new to you 645.......you are on the wrong end of Ohio...it's beautiful weather here..

Just came in a little bit ago; the wind is picking up & the rain was hitting the mailbox with a "tinging" sound. Geez....will spring ever get here?

Getting back to the mags - is the black bumper pad simply attached to the bottom plate of a "standard" mag? If so, how is it attached?

My TBDxxxx is also from 1988 and came with orange-follower stainless mags -- no black pad.

All the 645s' I seen had the medal basepads, they did ship the 745s' with a rubber pad glued to the bottom of them. The 4500 series used a black polymer basepad. There were medal, orange, yellow and black followers used.

When I won an ebay auction a few months back: 3 mags for 51 dollars w/ free ship 2 of them came with the rubber pad on them. I thought they were cool and they work nice in my 4506-1

It never happened without pics Kevin.

I know t-bird! I'm so behind in my picture responsibilities - I have a few that need posted. The weather really has sucked here; I need to get something setup inside for taking pics!
