My favorite local wallet drainer (AKA-Gun Shop!!) dropped a line to say he'd picked - up a pristine 65-5 Lady Smith 3 inch. Bad timing as I am a little cash poor, but I had to go check it out.

Came in the door with my possible partial trade and got "Well, I have bad news. I pulled the grips and there was deep pitting under the top of the left panel. You're probably not interested."

Well- I looked it over and the gun is nearly 98% and basically unfired except for a one inch oval blotch of corrosion due to moisture under the GD rubber Hogues the original owner had installed. The stock Rosewood - Altamont magnas cover the problem.

I said-"Not a real problem-just it is now clean shooter vs. safe queen. What are we talking."

"Well- I gave the guy top dollar trade based on my assessment. Then I pulled the damn grips."

I Ended up trading a re-import Walter P-1 with Altamont walnut grips and $230 for the Smith. Not a great deal-but I hated shooting the damn P-1. Will post photos in a day or two.

BTW-Anybody want a set a K frame round but Hogue rubbers cheap?

I bought one not long ago with the rosewood grips. I too paid top dollar for mine with no box or papers.

Good shooter with 38's for sure. With magnum loads the smooth grips want to shift in my hand (it was a hot day the day I shot it, and my hands were damp). I've added a T-grip to it which I hope will help with that problem.

I think I'm going to order a Don Hume J.I.T. belt slide holster for it, just in case I want to carry it from time to time.

You'll love it. Mine has a bobbed hammer and Ahrends grips. I picked it up in a multiple trade last year. I wouldn't take $ 500 for it, so it looks like you got a good deal.

Great find! I cannot wait to see your pictures.

I'm also looking forward to the pics. Lots of 3" M65 action here lately, they sure do make for a terrific carry gun and they've got the right look too.

Hey CajunBass! I bought J.I.T. for mine off ebay and with shipping it was only like $28. Not a great concealment holster unless you're wearing a jacket but for that money it works well for general "work around" carry.

Photos as promised!

Here is the 65-5 Lady Smith with its original ACE S&W rosewood grips.

IMHO the 65 LS is the best looking revolver ever made.

I didn't know the LS version has a full lug. My 65-5 doesn't have that. I much prefer a little more mass up front. She sure does look good.

I to recently picked up a ladysmith minus the original grips got it for $475.00. I put some pachmeyer compacs on her and she is good to go.

I have a m65 ladysmith I picked up back in 1998. It came with a pink nylon bag. $265.00. Seemed like a lot of money back then.

It's funny, when S&W was trying to sell these, most women shied away from the word "Magnum" - and most men wouldn't buy a gun with the words "Lady Smith" on it, even though it had features making it a almost perfect carry gun.

One local shop was almost giving away the one they had on the shelf since it was sitting there for over a year.

Once S&W dropped it from the line up, people wanted them.

I've always liked the look of the shrouded ejector rod on the LS.

Some came in the soft carry bag - others (like mine), came in a hard case with a lock to appeal to the folks that wanted to keep the gun "safe around kids"

I didn't care for the factory grips, and replaced them with Ahrends Combat grips...

Enjoy your Lady Smith, they are great guns!

Take care,

There is a 65-5 Lady Smith at my local P&G with correct grips. It has been there for a while. I already have a 65 for carry so I haven't bought it.

Great revolvers.

What is considered top dollar for a 65 Lady Smith?

Here is a pic of mine I just picked up myself.

M65 LS

Some fine looking ladies on here. I've shown this pic before but since we're showing them I'll post it as a thumbnail. I was glad to get mine for $450 + tax. First pic has the Rosewoods and the second with some $30 fingergrooves (the gun shop guy thought they were for a J frame) and a holster I made for it.
