My local guy called me when this one came in. He has it priced at $750. 66-1 snub. Not sure actual year so it could be pre-1980 or it could be 80-82. Rubber grips. Dirty. Rust on cylinder and hammer. Maybe elsewhere. Hasn't been torn down yet. No box or anything.

I think it's high for the condition. Rust isn't deep but rubbing it off might leave some finish issues. Felt tight, though.

Thoughts?

Without photos, it is hard to access the value. I would be hard pressed to offer more than $500 in the condition that you state.

I agree. I get it's a snub and all, but $750 just seemed way high to me. I might have gone as high as $600, but not more than that.

Rust on cylinder or frame is most probably surface rust and would clean right off unless its actually pitted. The parts I would be most concerned with are the hammer, trigger and other parts that aren't stainless.

Too much! I bought one about a year ago that was pitted around the left rubber grip for $400. Got some nerve up and sanded the pits out. Wasn't hard to do, but not for $750.

They aren't getting any cheaper....I would pass because there are nice ones in the $600-$800 range..... I paid $1000 for an unfired -1 with 2.5" barrel, original box, all papers, tools, etc. Might seem high to some but I have a standing offer of $1300 if I get ready to part with it. If you check GB, you will find the average opening bid for a -1 2.5" is $1000+ some 98% with matching boxes offered at $1600+... A few years from now we might saying "remember when you could find a model 66 w/2.5" for a grand". I think I will hang on to my threesome.

I've learned the hard way, that a firearm with cosmetic problems may well have mechanical problems.
I must agree with the others, in the condition you described that revolver is way overpriced. I would move on from that one.

2 1/2 years ago.......

I bought a 66-1 2 1/2 in bbl.
The guy I bought it from said he had the original stocks then didn't bring them to the meeting spot. It had Uncle Mikes RB rubbers on it.
There was a light rust on the inside of the frame window in a couple of spots. A tiny bit of surface rust on the matt finish along side the fear sight on one side.
I was VERY disappointed, on the phone he hadn't mentioned the rust.
The asking price was $650. I ended up passing on the several boxes of odds n ends ammo he'd offered and bought the gun for $475 with the promise that he'd send me the original stocks.
I never did get the stocks of course.
I've dressed it up some since, I sure enjoy the pistol!!
That surface rust cleaned up, you wouldn't know it had been there.

For my own clarification, I thought my Dad's 66 was a 2.75" barrel, but you guys are calling them a 2.5" barrel. I'm not close to it to actually measure it. What are they? I thought the standard ones were 2.75" and a 2.5" would be extremely rare. Or did they just make 1 length and I'm getting them confused????? And if it was just 1 length, what was it? 2.5 or 2.75"? Or was the 2.5" the more standard and they DID make some 2.75"s? Clear as mud? LOL.

Not sure why I thought it was 2.75".... Ugh. Learn something new all the time on here.

ABPOS... I'm not 100% certain, but I believe today's newer Model 66 snubs are 2-3/4 inches as compared to the older models that were 2-1/2 inches.

Someone who won't take care of the outside of a gun won't take care of the inside. I'd be hesitant and stay at $500 if I offered at all.

Saw it again today. Filthy dirty but the rust is barely surface rust and I think would clean right off. Another guy is interested but I'm still thinking $750 might be a bit high.

Be it right or wrong, I fell in love with this at the gun show. (-2) It was marked $795. Picked it up for $725 OTD. No box or extras. Put some wood stocks on it and very happy. Can't get a steal on all of them! Bob
