Picked up the 686-3 from a forum member, and smooth grips on ebay. Now I need to find a holster. I'm thinking a Barranti. I have another set of grips on order, osage orange target presentation grips from Culina.

I know that it is splitting hairs, but unless the right grip panel has the same "C" cutout, I would simply term these as smooth target stocks.

The cutout on the right panel would be to show some special rollmark or overlay on the sideplate and then I would call them presentation stocks.

Nitpicky, I know, but that's just the way I am. Current pet peeve is wannabe Internet automotive journalists calling any fast car a "Muscle Car" totally ignoring the true definition. Meh!

Adios,

Thanks for that insight. I had no idea that presentation grips would be defined as smooth and having both panels with speedloader cutouts to show off the frame sideplates on each side. I've always been using "smooth target" and "presentation" interchangeably.

Allow me to suggest you look at Bullard Leather for holsters. I have 5-6 of them, they're all made well above their price point. Their leather models have a "lined" option, which is something I always opt for.

I usually go with their Bodyguard model. These are made with a leather flap to prevent the hammer from contacting the owner's body. Makes for a much, much more comfortable carry.
