Howdy,

I'm torn between the 2 and I wish to hear first hand experience on one or the other.

The reason I ask is I really dislike shooting magnum out of my 4inch 686 ND so I seek something more pleasurable. I have a 629-4 Power Port I love, but wonder will that convert over to the 686 Power Port. I also like the idea of 25/50/75/100yd adjustments.

I mostly shoot full blast 125s and 158s in H110/2400 loadings

Do I hold out for a 686 8 3/8s Silhouette!?!?

I foolishly sold my 586 8in and miss it alot, yea yea im a broken record of buying and selling...

Any help would be appreciated... :D

Thanks
Erik

Both are great guns. Have had both. Toss the H110/296 powder.

They both burn at too high a temp. H110/296 will ruin/cut the

top strap on Smith revolvers. How do l know? l have seen it ln

Smith ''L'' frames and 8'' Colt Python. ln the early crazy days of

IHMSA we would stuff our cases full of H110/296 and 158gr or

180gr bullets. Some idiots would even stuff 38 wadcutter cases

full of 110/296 and .358'' dia 200 or 250gr rifle bullets. Then

light it with CCI small rifle Magnum primers! Those wadcutter

cases have extra capacity because of their thinner walls. Who

cared if the cases sometimes split after the first load. We

needed POWER for killing those 200m rams!!

Use 2400 or 4227 like 0le Elmer Keith

H110/W296 is definitely the powder for maximum velocity in the 357, 41, and 44 Magnum. It burns hot and the little spherical granules will cause erosion of the forcing cone and top strap, but that's what the L-frame S&W was designed to combat. With full power loads, muzzle porting can reduce muzzle rise, but so does a long, heavy barrel and the full underlug on an 8 3/8 inch barrel is pretty hefty.

Tough call on which would do you more good, porting or the adjustable front sight. Seeing as how neither of these are falling out of the trees, you might just want to buy the first of either that you can get for a reasonable price.

For a shooter l opted for a 686 Competitor. Nice Weaver style barrel shroud.

l can mount anything l wish.

Didn't buy any of them, I held out.... fell into a honey hole find and got a 66( not sure about yet) and a 586-3 mat black I'm in love with lol trigger is amazing on her range tomorrow
