I don't really need another revolver but... Tell me if the 627 4" Performance Center has any advantages over the 686 4" SSR? I have the 686. I'm aware of the 627 having the 8 rounds. Anything else?

I have both. The 627, being an eight shot, the hand needs to rotate the cylinder only 45 degrees rather than 60 degrees as in the SSR. Also, for the same reason the ratchets on the 627 have different and softer angles. The combination of those two things, in my opinion, result in a better trigger pull for the 627.

The frame is virtually the same size, but the 627 cylinder is about 1/8" larger in diameter. You need an N sized holster. An L won't fit.

PC revolvers generally have a smoother action. They also have a matte finish, which shows dings and scratches more easily than a polished 686. I like the looks of the slab-sided barrel, and having a (fixed) trigger stop.

The N frame is larger than the L frame to accommodate the larger cylinder. Try to fit an N frame cylinder in an L frame some time. It also has a larger grip frame.

PC revos don't have any better action than normal ones, except for "luck of the draw". I've seen 2 new in the box PC guns that had 16 lb. trigger pull, many with the normal 12 to 14 lb. trigger pull.

I like the looks of the slab sided barrel, too. And a solid trigger stop.

I have a slab sided 4" 686 SSR and 4" and 5" 627s. I like them all. I like the 8 round capacity of the 627s, but the 686 SSR is one of the quickest handling revos I own. They all have highly tuned actions.
