I have a 686-4 plus with three inch ported barrel. Performance center emblem on the left side of frame. The front sight tritium insert is dead. Does anyone know what dovetail it is and where can i get a replacement front sight?
Your 3" 686-4 Plus is described in the SCSW 5th Ed. as: 3" seven-shot, high polish stainless, PowerPort, front night sight, unfluted cylinder"; and their example has a Lew Horton s/n (LHPxxxx). With the Performance Center logo it's probably a Model 686 Mag Comp or Carry Comp, but I am far from being an expert. My Model 686-6 Plus is similar, and now has an SDM fiber optic front sight which works very well in low light. Night sight replacements made for the 686 are usually available from XS Sights, Trijicon, Meprolight. If you contact S&W Customer Service, they may send you one.
