Picked this one up today from a local LEO that had been sitting in a safe for years. Really nice tight lockup. No "M" so it looks as though it hasn't been sent back for the recall. Serial number is: AEY94XX so I was wondering about the DOB. Paid $425 for this one, no box though...

For that price you don't need no stinking box!! Nice 686. Can't help ya on it's birthday, sorry. My 586 has thousands of rds. through it and I've yet to send it back for the mod.

I forgot: I just bought another one so that's 5 no-dash L frames. I have three that have not been back for the recall and I have not had a problem with any of them with standard .357 loads with 158 grain bullets. The two that were back were sent before I owned them.

That is a great price, I would have bought it and I have stached about 2 dozen or so 681's and 686's. Shoot it and enjoy the feeling of holding a great gun made by S&W.

Your 686 birthdate is Nov 1984.

Great looking gun and a terrific purchase at a great price.

I have a 6 inch no dash 686 and a 6 inch no dash 586 and neither have the M on the crane. I have not had any problems with them so far and I'm debating on sending them in.

NGIB,
Sweet gun! Congratulations. I have but one 686, also a no-dash, built in 1983, a six-inch gun and I love it...it's my "go-to" range gun when I need to check out a new load or just want to enjoy sending 100 rounds down-range.

If I came across a deal, I'd snag a four-inch gun. Enjoy!!!

Bob

I love the 686's. I bought a new six inch when they were first introduced (AAB44xx) and a four inch no-dash (ACM12xx) last year. Sent them in together with strict instructions to not mess with the trigger pulls as both are VERY sweet. Fortunately they left both actions alone, I would have been very unhappy otherwise.

I love my 686+ 6" too. I have a number of semi-autos and still that big S&W revolver is still the most fun to shoot. I even truck it around in a shoulder rig in winter. It's night job is home defense.

Great lookin' revolver!!! Nothing quite like a stainless L-frame (except maybe a blued one) LOL!

I have an early 686 no dash ( serial# AAB6xxx ) and has no indication of any modification. I have sent a 100 or so .357 loads down range and experienced no problems. Not sure I want to sent to the factory for modification.
