I had to sell one or the other a few years ago to buy a dump truck.

My friend bought the older version on top. They are both 686-6. Yesterday I cleaned it for him and asked if he wanted to trade, he said he liked both. The one on bottom is a SSR.
Anyone have an opinion on which one is better? I have done both triggers, bobbed the hammer on SSR. The other has been shot more but both are nice.
Opinions?

Purely personal decision but
I think the SSR is closer or
actually is what S&W sholuld
have created when it went to
the L-frame.

Of course, that's pure hindsight
because at the time Smith wanted
to give Colt and its Python a swift
kick in the competition butt.

I bought a full lug 686 in 2015. I traded it in on a SSR in 2016. After having a action job, Mepro front site and a set of Ahrends grips, in my opinion, it's perfect. It will stay mine till I die!!!

Depends on what you want it for.......Concealed carry/self defense in my opinion is DAO so the SSR ........ at the range where you might want to try long shots single action the other.

why did you chop the grip on the SSR?

For looks I go with the SSR. From what I have read I would choose the SSR for accuracy and shoot ability.

Depends upon your intended use. For general paper punching or hunting, I like to be able to cock my revolver, so the SSR wouldn't be my pick. If I wanted to shoot some form of action event or as a self defense gun, then the SSR might be my pick.

I used both for IDPA matches. I bobbed the hammer so it wouldn't hang up coming out of the holster. I cut the grip to make it easier to get the speed loaders in.

I did end up making master in both revolver divisions before moving onto other shooting events.
