I found 2 686s.
Prelock 750.00
200 rounds ammo plus original case
686 current version 700.00
Has wood grips bianchi lined holster original box.
Which one? Would you get?

Prelock. I already have holsters. What barrel length?

Both are 6 inch. I have a 586 but no holsters. The 586 is a lock type current version.
Btw I'm in kommifornia.

Same here, nothing against the guns with the lock but the older examples without the lock just look better to me.

For what it is worth, I would rather have a pre-lock revolver over an internal lock revolver. While the internal lock revolvers may be proven reliable, I don't want to take the risk of the internal lock engaging in a life or death situation!

Good point. However I would doubt I am gonna use my 686 or 586 in any emergency. Maybe usps? Sorry but my g22 is on my bedside. Not as accurate but more than 6 rounds.

The pre-lock revolvers are becoming like the P&R guns in the eyes of S&W enthusiasts and will become more so in years to come. Long term value and appreciation, you are better off with the pre-lock 686. For utility and regular use, the lock gun will serve you very well. If the lock bothers you, remove it and buy a plug.

You are in the wheel house on price for both of them out west. In AZ we rarely see 686s come across for less than 700.

I have both prelock and current production. I carry current production 329PD with my Lock Delete and custom steel cylinder bolt installed. My pre spends most of its time in the safe I don't want to scratch it up carrying it.

But my pre is the one I'll get out oil and just fiddle with for an hour or so now and then because I enjoy it.

Buy the one that makes you happy

Behind enemy lines of this draconian state. We have a pistol roster. I cannot buy any pistol not on our roster out of state. This means any pistol that is not on roster, demands a premium.
A ruger mark iv will fetch 1000.00 plus. M and p runs 700 to 900 average used.
