7-30 waters

anyone know where to get bullets for reloading a 7-30 waters, looking for 7mm bullets that are flat nosed, in 110, 120, or 130 grain. must be flat nosed or rubber tipped as the gun has tubular mag. always wanted a model 94 in 7-30 waters, now that i have one can't find bullets to reload. all i can find is loaded ammo from federal in nickel cases. thank you in advance, 'jeff

Jeff: You might consider casting your own. It can be relatively inexpensive to get equipped and do on your own. The next step is swaging and that gets really expensive fast. For up-to-date info on almost any type of bullets I suggest you go to the cast bullet forum and politely ask for help. Those guys know a lot about all types of bullets and also know most everyone in the bullet supply industry.

I presume that you don't know the difference between making a bullet by casting of lead plus alloys in a mould vs. putting a precision cut slug of pure lead in a precision made copper jacket of the proper design and size and then forcing it thru a precision made swaging die under thousands of pounds of force. There by making one precision swaged copper jacketed bullet. It is all those "precisions" that get this process expensive fast.

There are individuals out there making darn fine jacketed bullets by swaging, but it is a real labor of love and did I mention that it is very expensive? .....

The Saeco 145 gr is the mold mad for the 7/30 waters. Mine is a ss Contender rifle bbl. The cartridge is tough to beat and the 120 and 130 jacketed factory bullets are unobtanium now days. The only other alternative is to shoot Sierra 130 gr bullets and load one in the chamber and one only in the magazine. If you are disturbed about shooting cast in it please let me know if you wish to sell it.

Unless there's two of you I've responded to this on another board.

Speer makes a 130 gr flat nosed spire point for use in lever actions.

It's not currently in their catalog and I'm not sure how often then make runs of them. My advice is to buy all you can find:

Your only alternative at the moment is to use a cast bullet.

I have a 7-30 Waters but your bullet shape quandary doesn't apply to me as it is a T/C Contender "Super 14." I load ammo for it with 120-grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, which have plastic tips but still might not meet your needs.

The suggestion of loading just one in the magazine is a good one. How many animals hang around for more than two shots anyway?

Wideners has a special going on now 600, 110gr 7mm HP bullets for $79.
I may get some for my 7mm TCU and my 7-08 Encore handgun.

In a pinch, you can load any appropriate weight bullet in any configuration, if you can get by with a two-shot rifle.
Hornady used to make 139 grain flat point. I don't know if they still do.
Someone else pointed out Speer's fine bullets, too.
