Can anyone suggest a good, non corrosive, not expensive, 7.62X54R name brand ammo? I read on another gun forum that Wal-Mart sells the 7.62X54R ammo.

ammo

I have all kinds of 7.62x54 ammo most of it is corrosive except some wolf I have is not suppose to be. but I shoot it all and clean with hot soapy water, not as much trouble as it sounds. I use a 2 pound coffee can with hot soppy water and stick the barrel in it and run a patch from the breach end and get the patch wet and then it will pull the water up into the barrel and chamber, it only takes a couple of strokes and as the water is very hot it dries quick, then I use regular bore cleaner (hoppes).
on one semi auto I have I bought new brass and load my own.
I think norma makes it but it is high.
I have been shooting corrosive ammo for years and never had any rust cleaning this way.

Mill surplus will be corrosive. New production will not be. I did notice Wally World had some TULA FMJ 7.62X54R last time I was there $11.97 for 20 rounds and picked up a box. GM sells some in a white box and I think it is marked corrosive. Nothing wrong with corrosive ammo as long as you clean well afterword's I us plain Windex as the ammonium neutralizes the salts.

What is your idea of not expensive?

Brass...Wolf gold, Winchester, PPU

Steel....wolf, Bear, Red Army. These will be the cheapest.

I have seen wolf and winchester at Walmart

Cleaning corrosive is not a big deal. A lot of people use Windex and or hot water. Whatever floats your boat. I just use some CLP and done. Takes 5 minutes. Have been doing it for over a decade without any rust

Seiler and belote? Spelling illudes me right now. And Winchester Metric calibers which I think is Seiler Belote.
And that privi stuff which is plumb ok. I bought a half case of that before jugears sucked his way in to the WH. I bought like 6 cases of corrosive just because it was cheap at the time and if I had to, I could pull the bullets and size them for my other 30 cal rifles.

I have a good friend that reloads. He made some loads with .308 boat tail bullets, standard powder.

They were great, at 400 meters I didn't have to change the setting on the open sites. They didn't drop like the spam can ammo.

400 mtrs., what target? You see a target?

What are you shooting it out off? Problem with 308 is that it's 308. Typically most things chambered in 7.62x54 run from 310 - 312. It's possible to run into a 308 barrel

Also that's what the sight ladders are fore :)
