Gents - It's at my FFLs currently and I hope to get it by the end of the week, as work time allows. My guess it's a 90% finish overall, clean inside, great trigger and doesn't rattle at all, like an old 5906 I use to own. No box, paperwork or spare mag with the deal. I intend to use it as a range/ target pistol with my reloaded ammo. Since this is a completely new to me, but 30-35 yr old pistol, what should I look for in terms of wear on the parts - assuming at least the springs. I hope to find a spare magazine or 2 and keep a recoil and mainspring, as spare parts if ever needed. Anything else to be aware of? Appreciate any guidance - Thanks, Bill in MA

Hi Bill, I am a big fan of the 745. I don’t believe there are any parts that need to be addressed for potential weakness. Hammer and mainspring will be made possibly forever by Wolff Gun Springs.

A backup extractor and extractor spring would be a great idea — but that’s a great idea for any/every semiautomatic pistol.

Magazines are compatible with the 645, 4506, 4566 and 845, so stack magazines in a tall pile.

You can use OEM 645 grips, but not much reason to. If you want an aftermarket rubber grip, the Pachmayr for 645 exists — but you will have to heavily alter the left side grip as the massive enlarged thumb safety won’t work with the Pachmayr until you shave down the top of it. And altering the Pachmayr is do-able, but it’s more involved than you might guess because the grip is steel lined.

Steve where can I find a set of Pachmayer 645 grips?

MSP, you lucky dog. I too love my 745. Mine shoots jacketed bullets much better than cast. 200 XTP, and Nosler 185 are both very accurate in my pistol.

You must post pics after you get it. It’s the law.

You may have directed this at me :D

I am not Steve. I am "Sevens." But this happens a lot, most folks see "Stevens", the classic American long gun brand. :)

Pachmayr 645 grips can be found the same place all the good junk that was taken out of production in the late 80's or early 90's can be found. Gun shows, Ebay (puke) and Gunbroker. Sometimes on gun forums. I hear that folks on Facebook (double puke) find and swap stuff all the time.

Thanks for the responses, the original wood grips are in nice condition and I think I'll keep them as is. Forgot to mention is has an adjustable rear sight, not the Novak style. Since posting, I checked the SN "TBKxxxx" in "the book", I believe it dates to 1990. Remember seeing these advertised when I first got my firearms license, but they were out of my budget range back then. Had not been looking for one, but stumbled upon it and thought I could give it a good home! Thanks again, pics will follow! Bill in MA
