All three being good and somewhat disparate choices, are there some notable pros / cons to these models?

I know the 908 is a "Value Line" alternative to the 3913 / 3914 pistol, and that the 6906 represents a higher-capacity choice.

I've seen some fair-looking deals on a 908 and a 6906 lately, less-so on the 3913 front.

Just curious what input the Forum has on these models; I know the 3rd Generation Smith autos are held in high regard.

My uses for one (or more) of these would be concealed-carry and potential IDPA use.

Hey Six the 6906 is just unconfy for cc. The extra width, weight (extra bullets) and ambidexterous safety of the 6906 make the 908 a good choice.

Since you mention IDPA use, accuracy might be important.

I am not sure about the 908, but my 910 did not have the barrel lug and corresponding cut inside the slide that my non "value line" S&W 9mm pistols have.

The 910 was not an inherently accurate pistol. The 3913 is.

I've had 6906's but always end up selling or trading them. They don't do anything my 3913 doesn't already do.........better.

I vote for the 3913. Good luck with your decision! Regards 18DAI

I agree that the barrel lock up on the 3rd Gen pistols is probably better than the Value Line. Both my 915 and 3913 are very accurate.

I have fired a 910 (15 round version) Value Line and found it to be extremely accurate. I suppose that can very in all pistols.

Also, don't you need a 10 round magazine to shoot IDPA? It's been a while since I've shot anything but local stuff so I could be wrong.

If you need 10 rounds the 6906 would be a better route for competition and you get the added benefit of barrel lugs for tighter lock up.

It's kind of apples and oranges. The 6906 is a fantastic gun, but it's mid-sized. They are uber reliable and as accurate as a full sized gun, holding more rounds than either of your other choices.

The 3913 is a fantastic gun, fewer rounds, smaller, easy to carry. Very accurate.

The question is not which gun is better, but which fits your need more?

Six gun,I've had a 3913nl since 92, my 1st 9mm. Its been as reliable as a stone, that being said I also have a 6904 and a 6906, a bit more girth and 4 more rds just as accurate and dependable . A few months ago there were 3913s all over the auction sights but they have dried up now, the same will happen with the 69XXs. Smith isn't making 3rd gens any more so it seems like you get them while you can. I'm looking for a 3914 myself. The 908/S I have no first hand knowlege of, but someone that knows will chime in. You do know that if you get a 3rd gen you will be hooked.

I hear you on this! I've only owned one, a 908, a good while back but didn't own it long enough to form a solid impression of it, other than it shot like a darn laser beam with Cor-Bon ammo!

I've been back on the S&W Forum here more since recently acquiring a grand old 27-2 revolver, and the steady activity on the site around 3rd Gen autos piqued my interest again in those.

I saw a very interesting auction recently on GB for both 6906s and 5906s and it turns out that the dealer is local, so I may get to browse at least one of these choices soon!

Thanks all for the feedback here, it is greatly appreciated!

Never had the opportunity to handle a 3913, but I really like my 6906. I wear it comfortably under a loose shirt with no problem. Nothing works well for me IWB. But I would give the 3913 the edge in that aspect.

Be sure you check my post in the lounge, there's a sweet 3913tsw available through cabela's gun library for $425 right now.

I just read your post and searched immediately!!

Unfortunately it has the rail on the front. Nice gun in great shape, but I prefer no rail. They're out there!!!
