took in a nice one of these in trade recently, its a 20" gun that is missing the front bead

I went to numericks and ordered the bead they had listed on there diagram
the bead they shipped has larger threads than the barrel will accept.

I don't have anyway of measuring the tread size

does anyone know what the tread rate and count is for a 916, or should I just go ahead and buy the universal kit and put a fiberoptic front bead on it
since it might have been cut down long ago?

$2.50 for a bead, $15 for the universl kit

Fiber-optic sight would be a reasonable alternative. Bigger question is are you having issues with the slide hanging up. Many were returned for this .I sold mine (916T) because of it.

I have a 916 and I love it, except the screw that holds the stock onto the receiver won't stay tight. I'll be fixing it by taking a piece of 1/4"-28 threaded rod; cutting it 1" longer than the screw; threading one end into the boss on the receiver; putting a jam nut behind it, and using a nut and washer on the other end to hold the stock in place.

If your 916 still has the hole in the barrel where the bead was it's probably not a cut down. Many 916's were sold to LEO agencies. Frequently getting in and out of cruisers very often resulted in the loss of the bead. I've seen some officers take them out on purpose so the wouldn't hang up on something. Missing beads are very common to all riot guns no matter who makes them. I've had several replaced by a friend who has an assorted box full of them. He pulls them out until he finds one that fits. He recently replaced one on a long tube Ithaca 37 and replaced another on a 870 a while back.
