Long time member but first time posting here.

I have an early PC 945 (0018 sn) that has thousands of rounds through it and suspect it could use a complete spring transplant.

Not sure where to get all the correct ones as the CA S&W source does not stock anything for the 945.

Now I should state the recoil spring is the original but purchased one from Wolff for a 4506 as they appeared similar but am trying to verify compatibility before trying it.

I started to build a spring tester but didn't finish yet. It's only been 10 years so given time ............

One other thing that has me concerned is trigger pull has always been very nice from the beginning but now it is around 2 pounds.

I don't mind the light pull but have experienced a couple unintended double taps and that is concerning.

I may have limp wristed at those times but now have not fired it for several years and am just getting back to wanting to shoot this fine piece of craftsmanship.

I would appreciate anyone who may point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance, Ed

You might want to specify what length barrel your 945 has as they came in different lengths over the years.

I'd assume 5" since it's an early one but you know what they say about that. :)

For sure - it's a 5".

Without knowing for sure, I believe it is a 1998 manufacture.

Black grips and didn't get the nice PC carrying case. They didn't offer it to my knowledge.

I've never had a FTF or a FTE yet. Feeds anything.

The two recoil springs I got with my most excellent, early LEW945 came with two springs. Both are exactly the same but one should be longer, (heavier weight,) I think. (?) Wadcutter vs full. The pistol runs great with the spring that was in it when I got it.

I hope someone will be along to correct me but I think they originally came with two weights. 12# and 17# not unlike the 4506's.

I held both the 945 springs next to all my new 12#/wadcutter 4506 ones. They are exactly the same length but the 4506 ones have two more coils. 37 compared with 35.

I would be comfortable using a 12# 4506 recoil spring in my 945.

On a side note but kinda relevant, my little 3.25" 945-1 uses the CS40/45 recoil springs. They are the same length/coil number. No issues.
