Had some loads for the 9mm and 38 special to put on paper and also log down the fps of the loads.

Guess what?
In my "Silver years" I finally messed up and left the tape home that I use for my targets.
Looks like I will have to start using a checkoff sheet, from now on, bummer.

I will post the fps of my loads, just in case they might be of interrest to some of you,
since they were miniamal loads for the 38 lead bullet loads and
also starting or minimum loads for my 5" 9mm with a 13 pound spring
to see if it would eject the loads.
They work in my 3 & 3.5" pistols that have a lighter spring, so
I had to see what would take place with the "Marine" type pistol.

I will start off with the m49 snub nose that was shot in 44* temps,
that did not jive with other test in warmer weather, for what it is worth.
148 BBwc OAL 1.24"
Trail Boss 2.6 gr.......620fps es 35
w231 2.9 grs ....... 599fps es 44
158 Lwc OAL 1.48"
w231 ... 3.5 ..........546fps es 58
Trail Boss 3.5 ........ 594fps es 78
Trail Boss 3.0 ......... this is the one I wanted and I unpluged the unit, no data. :(

9mm 5" barrel with a 13 lb recoil spring
115 Xtreme OAL 1.14"
Bullseye 3.8 gr ......... 923-957 ave 943fps es 34 2 fail/eject
Red Dot 3.6 gr ......... 932-1041 ave 989fps es 108 1 fail/eject

124 Berry RN OAL 1.14"
Bullseye 3.8 ............ 918-951 ave 937 es32 1 fail/eject
Red Dot 3.6 ............ 945-1016 ave 993 es70
w231 4.0 ............... 944-1004 ave 979 es59
Green Dot 4.0 .......... 986-1043 ave 1006 es57
CFE 4.8 .................. 947-1007 ave 977 es 60

147 Berry RN OAL 1.14"
Red Dot 3.0 .............. 836-844 ave 840 es 7
CFE 3.8 ................... 813-850 ave 824 es37
HS-6 4.8 .................. 763-800 ave 786 es 32

Due to the chamber and throat of this pistol, almost all of these light loads
were covered with soot, even thought most did eject.

The 9mm 115 gr under a PF114 failed to eject as well as the
124 gr load that had a PF116 rating.
Loads that were at or above a PF120, ejected, even though, the cases were dirty, from the low pressures.

I did learn that this pistol does not do well with "Powder Puff" loads.
However there is nothing wrong with 9mm Minor ammo.

Have a great Christmas.

Here is a picture of the Good, Bad & the Ugly,
for those that like pictures.

Ed, thanks for posting. Just more justification for not downloading 9mm rounds for my semi-auto pistols. FTEs are no fun. I save the small powder load plinking stuff for the revolvers now. I pretty much just load 9mm rounds to match the velocity of my self defense ammo. Almost all of the 124 gr 9mm self defense rounds I've tested come out of my 4 inch Glock 19 at around 1050 ft/s. A little less from my Sig P365. (That's from memory. I'll double check my notes.)

After something similar happened to me, I created a small “range bag“ which contains my gate key, membership card, staple gun, extra staples, targets, tape, eye and ear protection, a small selection of screwdrivers, punches, and a 1911 bushing wrench (I do not have a 1911 that requires one, but occasionally I encounter someone who does), cleaning kit, patches, jag, Break Free, UpLula magazine loader, and other things that I thought I might need. I keep all these things in this bag all the time so that I do not have to retrieve them before each trip to the range. I have a second bag for ammo, and a third bag for pistols and revolvers. This allows me to get out the door faster.
