I would like to have some feedback on the 9mm compact. I have owned a FS 9mm M&P, sold it and now have a pro series long slide 9mm coming. I carry a Ruger Lc9 for concealed carry and am thinking of adding the 9mm compact. Any input concerning handling, follow up shots, felt recoil knowing it is very subjective. I have carried a S&W j-frame airweight and my arthritis is not doing well when fired for about 50 rounds.
Thanks in advance, Frank.

The compact 9 shoots just as soft as the full size. I think the full size is a little more accurate because of the longer barrel. Shooting the 9c after shooting an airweight j-frame feels like shooting a 22.

I wound up selling my full size after getting the 9c because with a full size magazine with xgrip I had two guns in one.

I have a 9c with the APEX kit and it handles and shoots like a dream. Back on target quickly and not much recoil. For carry and concealability though, I prefer my CS9 or Shield 9.

I own Pro and the Compact both in 9mm, both sights where changed, and Apex installed Pro, but both shoot straight and accurate.

Thank you all for your response and great photo. Did I understand you correctly that you changed out the trigger on the Pro also? If that is correct what improvement did you get from the swap.
Thanks again, Frank.

I use the pro for target shooting, and wanted better trigger assembly. They all said Apex, which is lot better then what S&W put in the gun. The trigger takes no effort to squeeze round off, and I think more accurate.

I've got a M&P pro9, M&P 9C, a 9mm shield and a sigma compact ( all with trigger work.). I've also owned a few 3rd gen metal compact 9s. IMHO, the 9c is hands down my all time favorite. Soft shooting, accurate, easy to conceal when I feel the need.

FWIW, I also have a (40) pro that has had the trigger works "apex'd". It's slightly lighter and has a quicker reset. That said, the trigger from S&W on the 9pro is very nice.

Love mine and would buy it again. Just wish it had about a 1/4" longer grip for my hand. I had an accident back in 82 and almost cut my right hand off at the wrist and it feels short on my palm. Hand is back to 80-90% and I do use the longer mags and grip extension now and then which helps tons. But still shoot with the smaller mags, still have control and do just fine. Great for CCW too. I have the whole 9 collection from the Shield to the Pro and love them all.

Shield in 9mm.

The 9c is easier to shoot than the J frame lightweight (My J frame is a 38+p).

Great gun, I place mine as #2 behind my 3913.

Love my 9c, it gets about 80% of my carry time. Easy shooting. I carry it with the flat baseplate.

I've had 3 m&p9cs (long story) and out of 55 carry guns I've bought in the last 8 years, the compact is my favorite of all time, including the Shield I now have. I keep thinking of offering my Shield for a 9c but I've regretted letting so many guns go that I'm hesitant.

If I didn't already have a Shield 9 I would be very interested in that trade!

Got my 9c broken in finally and like it more and more. The shield is more concealable but my 9c shoots good has mild recoil and holds more rounds. And accepts full size mags.

I own both the LC9 and the M&P 9c which I carry everyday when I can (unfortunately I can't carry on campus). I love my M&P; recoil is easily managed, follow-up shots are on target, and the capacity is great. I had a trigger job done to my LC9 so now the pull is half as long as stock, has a crisp break, and a shorter reset. No one has mentioned this here but if you are used to carrying the LC9 and switch to an M&P be prepared for the thicker M&P. I am a bigger guy so I can conceal the M&P pretty easily but my dad has issues with it where he does not have issues concealing the LC9. Between the LC9 and M&P, the M&P has much less felt recoil imo. Plus the M&P feels much more solid when shooting/ overall than the LC9.

Thanks all. This has been great information and just what I was hoping for. I believe I need to get a 9C and sell my j-frames. No use holding on to guns I can't shoot.
Thanks again, Frank.
