Howdy,

This afternoon, I spent a couple hours loading 9mm at the single stage press.

I have two sets of 9mm dies, both RCBS with Tn sizer die.

Both have the more modern Gray boxes.

In studying the two boxes and sets of dies, I noted that the set being used at the time was their number: 20509

My spare set is: 20515.

Without going downstairs to the reloading room, I think the Seating die in 20509 has the "Screwdriver blade" slot at the top.

The 20515 Seating die has the (I think) more updated Round knurled and lock nut gizmo.

Did the catalog numbers change at some point because of the seating die lock-nut differences or what??

Just really curious.

Y'all take care and THANKS!! Bo in western NC

BoCash,

If you will check you will find RCBS are Tungsten Carbide, not Titanium Nitride. The TN is a gold colored coating process, completely different from Tungsten Carbide.

That aside, with RCBS just about any change in any die of a set will result in a catalog number change for the set and individual die.

They have changed over time.

I have the old "slot top" style and there are the newer "Dial" tops.

There is also the $$ target dies for the nit pickers........... :D

To save "Set-up" time, I have several "Dummy loads" without primer/powder
that have the correct OAL with bullet styles, for all my weapons.

Have fun.

IMO your fastest and best information will come directly from RCBS. Sorry I can't help since I don't have any 9mm dies from RCBS.

"Dial tops"...........good way to describe that newer die.

Dummy Loads: Great minds think alike. I have dummy loads without primers in a parts cabinet for every caliber and bullet style I load. ...........really comes in handy adjusting dies.

THANKS !!!!!! Bo, AKA "Dummy Load"

Thanks............was in a hurry and abbreviated "Tn" for Tungsten. The actual chemical symbol is W, believe it or not....(chemistry/biology background, but it has been 2 decades since I taught high school................. old dog forgot where he hid his bone).

These are definitely not T. Nitride.

So...........it appears I have two different catalog numbers of basically the same dies, just they changed the cat. number when going from one type of seating plug assembly to another style. Always learning!!

THANKS and take care, Bo, Taught up everything he ever learned and have Nothing Left!!!
