I am still looking for recommendations for 9mm loads that will work well in a CS9. I purchased a box of 124gr copper plated lead round nose bullets (XTreme Bullets) and will be using PMC primers with Win 231. How much powder and what overall length do you recommend?
Hodgdon now markets Winchester powders. You can get load data at Basic Manual Download by either using their interactive data or downloading the basic manual. For copper plated bullets use lead bullet data for 124 or 125 grain bullets. If the bullets have a good thick copper plate similar to Berry's or Ranier bullets you can split the difference between jacketed and lead data.
There should be no short cuts in load development.
To find what works best and is most accurate in your pistol use a start load and work up. Usually a box of 50 with a sample of at least 10 rounds loaded at the start load (10% reduction from maximum) up to maximum in 10 round batches in 2% of max increase is a good way to go. Shoot the lowest power for accuracy, reliability and velocity. Look for pressure signs and then go to the next step in charge weight. If pressure signs appear like cratered or flatened primers, etc. stop and consider the previous load to be maximum for your component mix. Select the most accurate load to shoot in your pistol.
