Jellybean. After a closer look at the "Revolving Bores" article, that's the one. Illustrations have been removed although they're referred to in the text.

Here's a so so photo of the 3-inch 547 I had:

Is anyone still actively converting 686's to 9mm?

I seem to remember the guys at moonclips.com used to advertise it...also would take 9x23, if you had it reamed to that length...of course, used moonclips.

With that being said, couldn't a 19/66 that wasn't a P&R gun be also reamed and cylinder back machined and use speed six moonclips?

I've wanted to do that project, but been taking time on the .38 Winchester "Heavy Duty."

Headknocker,
Bought it used at a gunshow. It had Bianchi grips that shrouded the hammer and I did not realise the butt had been "hacked" until I removed the grips. It was indeed "hacked". It took a lot of filing to make the frame look respectable again. The extractors are not chromed, which makes it look even better. However, it is a great shooter and a favourite.

One would think that with today's wonder metals, that S&W could use somehting less expensive but still as good as beryllium?

Headknocker - I the rear sight is modeled on the Bowen Classic sight. My guy may have actually used their sight blank to machine the finished product.

The front sight is an off the rack sight - I forgot whose. The gun shoots much better since I had this work done. I had a very hard time sighting it with the original sights and this made all the difference.

My gun smith also did a full action job and radiused the trigger. You can't see it, but both the hammer and trigger have been polished up nice and shiny.

The last piece was upgrading to a set of Wolff springs.

BTW - I also got myself a supply of those extractors - just in case.

The 4" 547 is no longer in my hand, but I remember well it was one of the most accurate revolver I have ever owned, but it was really a problem to eject spent reloaded cases!
A moonclip would resolve the problem, also it is the best way to carry spare amo for CCW.
After some test with 9mm bullets, lodged in 38SA cases and shot in 38/357 chambered revos with no loss in accuracy, if I had to get a 9mm revo, I'd take a cheap 19/66 with chambers reamed for 9mm and cylinder cut for moonclip.
