9mm Winchester NATO 124gr FMJ Review

Thought I would throw this one in just for fun.
Most of the 9mm reviews that I did were shot with two guns.
A SIG 365 SAS, with a 3.1 inch barrel and a Taurus G3 with a 4 inch barrel. This review was shot with the G3 only.
First I do forensic exam of the ammunition. Next I shot two groups at 15 yards. Chronograph is a Oehler 35P
There is no reason to shoot a FMJ in water.

This ammunition was obviously tested in a longer barrel. Nothing exceptional about this one, just a nice pleasant FMJ load. I always appreciate when velocity spreads are fairly tight, like this one.

Looks like good std pressure FMJ ammo. Nato cross but by no means +P ammo.

NATO spec pressure was about 5% higher than standard pressure for U.S. made ammo, U.S. +P ammo is 10% higher than standard pressure.

The crimp looks like a rolled crimp. Sure looks tight/heavy as well.

That's about 30 fps slower than it was in my Beretta PX4, but between different guns and different lots of ammo, that's well within what I would expect.

One thing you didn't check was how much muzzle flash it produced. I used some in a low-light shooting class and there wasn't much, it was barely visible when shooting. What flash there was was a dark red color.

In spite of what does look like a roll crimp, I had no problems with ignition.

Are you sure that the ammo you chronographed was actually military issue or just commercial ammo labeled as such? Way back in the 80s, shortly after the switch to the Beretta I bought some supposedly M882 issue 9mm. Heavy roll crimp, 124 gr that chronographed 1200 fps out of my 4" G19.

Absolutely 100% certain. Straight from the USAF.

I’ve run Winchester 124 gr. “9mm NATO” Q4318 over the chrono through a couple different guns.
A Commander length Springfield 1911 produced 1185 fps.
A 16” Ruger PC Carbine produced 1318 fps.
