I have a few hundred 124grain .355 diameter xtp bullets that I would like to use up in my 9mm. The only data I can find, lists a SAAMI maximum overall length but being a truncated cone style bullet I end up with a much shorter O.A.L of 1.040 in order to chamber properly.

I have worked up cast loads of the same weight and overall length and reached my velocity goals with far less than the recommended starting load. I don't want to work up a load for a small batch of bullets I am not going to buy again.

Does anyone have any proven NON +P data for this combination? The pistol powders I have on hand are Bullseye, Red Dot and SR-4756.

Thanks,
James.

I tried some 4756 back in the day with the 9mm. I may of been a little weak on the charge but I had some cycling problems. They went away with Bullseye. I now mostly use Titegroup & H Universal in the 9mm.

My Hornady handbook lists OAL of 1.060" for that bullet. The same manual lists 5.5 4756 as a maximum charge, for 1050 FPS. I use 4.0 Red Dot, for about the same velocity.

Yep. it's the Hornady Handbook, 7th edition. They list a starting load of 4.3 grains of Power Pistol for 900 fps, to a max of 5.7 grains, for 1100. This is with several different 124 grain bullets.

Hope that helps.

Interesting data Scattershot. Based upon the data I had and the need to reduce OAL I wound up starting with a Load of 5.7gr.4756 with the 115gr xtp.-It shot so nicely that I didn't change anything but I'm confident that it is under Max.

Dunno-my chrony died. Does your manual show data for that bullet and powder? Ejection and fired case dimensions are comparable to non +p factory loads. I'm guessing velocity is around 1050 from a 3.5" barrel but that is only a guess.
