Yes. I'm a big fan of the 9x23. It's one of the most powerful cartridge made. I shoot 9x23 or 10mm with 2 different slide uppers on my base 1911 frame.
I use the weaker .38 super loading data as a guide for 9x23 load development. It is the most accurate gun I have with the 10mm trailing by a nose.

How close is 9x23 to +p or +p+ ?
125 gr. @ 1450 fps with less muzzle blast and recoil than the .357 mag.

a Colt 1911 chambered for 9x23mm along with a second Colt barrel for .38 Super. Colt made a few of these guns in the mid-90s in cooperation with Winchester/Olin which made the ammo. When I got the pistol I immediately bought a case of ammo. I think Winch. still makes some ammo.
The cartridge is absolutely RED HOT!!! I have chronoed it at near 1500fps from my 1911. The Colt barrel does not fully support the case but the empties show no bulge at all.
This was/is a great cartridge that never went anywhere.

Here's a great Cartridge Comparison. As you'll see, 10mm is the only cartridge that produces more muzzle energy and 9x23 is right on top of .357 stats.
For me, a 1911 with an Officers frame and a 4" barrel chambered in 9x23 is an ideal pistol for concealed carry. 7 rounds in a flush fitting mag plus 1 in the pipe gives you the equivalent of eight .357 rounds.
I've chronographed 124 grain Winchester white box at 1,500 fps, although 125 grain Winchester Sivertips go a more leisurely 1,400 or so.
SAAMI chamber pressure is over 50,000 psi, so the barrel should be ramped and IMHO the chamber must be fully supported.
Recoil is snappier and a bit lighter than .45 auto and quicker to get back on target.
The downsides are that you virtually have to reload because the ammo is so expensive and hard to find. $30 for a box of 50, assuming you can find it. Starline 38 Super Comp brass is fine for target loads but Winchester brass is beefier at the case head and should be used for full-house loads. Good luck finding the Winchester brass most of the time, but Winchester must have done a run recently because Midway and Grafs both have it in stock.

nice pistol, could u take a good 9mm 9x19 barrel and ream it to 9x23 ? i have a sd9ve . do u thing it would work ?

You can ream a 9x19 to 9x23 but the real questions would be: 1) will the rounds fit your mags; and 2) will the pistol function the longer round?? Pressures are much higher and could batter your gun.

Always thought a Ruger PC9 in 9/23 would be a great short range carbine for around the house. To bad, I would have bought one in a heart beat.

Ok, what do u think a good barrel would be and where to buy. Needs to be a drop in that can handle pressure.

Ruger Speed Six rechambered by Hamilton Bowen
Posting these for MattC. It is a Ruger stainless Speed Six that left the factory as a 9mm. It was converted to a DAO 9x23 by Hamilton Bowen.
Bowen also added his custom sights.

I picked up a 9x23 conversion kit for a 1911 and 1000 rds of ammo a couple of years ago at an estate sale. I love this round....,.accurate and powerful. Lately I have been shooting it through my Springfield 1911 A1 chambered for 38 Super and it has functioned flawlessly. If I could find a barrel for it for my 9mm Colt Combat commander, I would make that my primary carry piece!

I have one of the Colt 1911s that has had some work done, a 18 shot EAA Witness from their custom shop, several S&W 940s that have been opened up as well as a cool 9x23/357 convertible 8 shot 627.
