I've had this for a couple weeks, but a newborn miniature horse foal that's living in the house because her mom couldn't feed her and she caught pneumonia, a newborn silky goat whose mom also couldn't feed and (yep) in the house, a bovine virus that a couple of the horses caught and need to be treated, a new baby standard donkey, and assorted other issues kept me from bragging - I mean posting - about this little gem.
With many, many thanks to our own demkofour/Jim, this gorgeous 3914DAO made its way here from New York. My FFL was floored at how good it looked, and so was I. It looks unfired. Not a mark anywhere. It came with the blue plastic S&W box with label, papers, 3 magazines and a Jay Pee holster. Other than it was owned by someone on the job in NYC, I don't know why it wasn't used more if at all. I am ecstatic! Thank you Jim, I am grateful.
IMHO these guns are superior to the other DAO 3d Gens like the 3953 because they use the standard slide instead of a slightly elongated one, which means they'll fit in standard holsters with a safety strap or thumb break. They also have second-strike capability. All in all, it's a super complement to the rest of my 3d Gen accumulation!

I myself have bought more than my share of gems from this forum , some have even been offered . One is a 5946 from NYPD , even states it on the end label . It was carried , not real pretty , but I bet it has some stories behind it . Mine even came with a NYPD shoulder patch . He/she probably bought it when they retired . I know the NYC gun laws are among the worst around , but can retired NYPD officers carry concealed ? Anybody know ?

Vey nice pistol! , at the LGS other day I spotted a de cocking lever under another pistol bottom self. It was a 3914 great shape no signs of wear on muzzle or magazine . Regrettably I passed was over my budget plus was looking for full size pistol . I bought a used M&P , the sales guy said it is a better pistol- yeah right.

The pistol is great but I want pictures of the miniature hosses!
I would dearly love to have one, but they cost!

Sincerely, I hope that they are good or are getting better.

I really like these singe stack DAO pistols. Bought one NIB last year and then stumbled into another at Cabelas. These are in my regular winter carry rotation, along with a 3953.

Sure!
"Noodle" is our new American Curly foal. That's her mom, Little Debbie. The brown Curly stallion, Dylan, is Dad.
Next is our little Silky-Nubian mix goat, Panda, relaxing in the bathroom. And finally, the new standard donkey, Elli Mae, with Mom, Peek-a-Boo. We also have Peekie's mom, Mama's Girl. They're our first 3-generation critters.

I won't get too carried away with animal photos, but I had to add this one.
It's a Polish chicken, eating corn on the kitchen counter. She was ill and Mrs. brought her in to treat her, and the corn is her reward for cooperating.
I'm a city boy. I used to think this stuff was crazy. It still is, but I'm strangely at peace with it.... after all, I have my guns and my dog (Storm, in the photo) to keep me happy. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe that retired police officers can carry anywhere in the country. They might have to fill out some kind of a form.
Edit: I just dug this up on the interweb..
NRA-ILA | Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA)

NYPD doesn't issue pistols. The officer buys them. Depending on when the officer went on the job, they may have purchased the pistol while they were the academy or when they transitioned to semi autos.

Prior to HR 218, retiring NYPD officers where able to get NYC pistol permits. Permits in NYC are actually issued by a section of the NYPD.

I think what's confusing is that NYPD officers pick up their new guns from the Range. I believe either the city buys them and the cops then buy it from the city or they have some sort of arrangement to make the sale at the Range. In a city that has such strict gun laws, it actually sounds like the best possible setup.
While we're on the topic: I saw someone mention (and I don't remember if it was here or another forum) that the 3914DAO was a special order for NYPD. True/false? And thanks!

If the officer buys them , why does the label say NYPD ? Do they buy a block of guns and then sell them to the officers ? Might have to get a letter on this one .

I've been told they mark it to show it's an NYPD contract gun, just like revolvers were stamped with "NY-1." My box is not marked like that, so that's why I'm asking about whether or not it's a NY special.

It came with the blue plastic S&W box with label, papers, 3 magazines and a Jay Pee holster.

Congrats on your 3914DAO! :)

By the SN# stamping style it appears to be a later production model. What year was yours made, according to the box's label?

I bought one a little over a year & a half ago that the LGS received after his distributor called & said he had "one" he could offer him if he wanted it. It was made in Jun-2015, according to the box's label, & apparently finally released by S&W after the NYPD contract obligations expired.

It's crazy finding a brand new 3rd Gen.

3914DAO vintages...

Sanity check time: Which are the older vs. the newer guns?

Can you tell by the Springfield vs. Houlton markings?

Those are great pieces. Although I'd like a 3953, the 3914DAO is currently my to-die-for pistol.
And as far as ex-LEO carry, I have a good friend who's retired from federal service. He can legally carry just about anywhere.

Question for you gents that have fired both the TDA 39XX series guns and the 3914DAO guns.

Is the 3914DAO trigger pull like the DA pull on the TDA pistols? Thanks! Regards 18DAI
