At the time the revolver was ordered I was somewhat of a fixture at Hirams and a personal friend of Mr. Hutchenson. I was not only aware of the existence of the Model 53, but had the privilege of viewing the rendering sent by Mr. Smith to Blaine for his approval and the finished product upon it arrival back in El Cajon. As a result I know for certain the entire undertaking was based upon Blain's desire to create something unique to celebrate the Bicentennial and it had absolutely nothing to do with Elvis. Had Elvis been involved I'm certain the entire town would have know.
As to why a model 53--the answer is it had been lounging around the shop for a while and S&Ws in the mid 70s, and especially model 29s, were near impossible get ones hands on.
Unfortunately Blaine passed on at a young age and did live long enough to see his undertaking get the recognition it deserved.
I have now idea how the revolver found its way to Elvis but know for certain Elvis had nothing to do with it in the beginning.
