A Boy And His Gun

Congrats to you on your find!

The gun in the back of my brain for many years was a Model 17. No particular reason I've not had one before now. This past weekend that itch was scratched by a very, very nice 6 inch 17-4. Happy old guy.

I remember being in a similar situation as a teenager. It was shortly after the new "L" frame Smith & Wesson revolvers hit the market and I was reading a review in Guns & Ammo thinking about how much I really wanted one but being that I was probably 13 at the time, it was just a dream. Shortly after I was 21 I was walking through a local gun show and there it was .... a 4" 686. $250.00 later and it was mine. 20 years later more guns than I can remember have come and gone in my collection but one has remained constant through it all ... the 686.

I still have it and shoot it today!

Nice story - and a nice gun, too. Thanks for sharing both with us. Be sure to hang on to that 27 no matter what else comes along. That's a special gun for you, but sometimes that can be forgotten in the momentary excitement of a trade. Put that one on the "not for sale" list. :)
