The only way to remove Cerakote is to put it in and out of a holster a dozen times during qualification.
I guess that’s why my cerakoted M&P 9 spec series that has been in and out of a kydex holster way more than my “armornite” nitrided M&P 9 has less holster wear. LOL
Good grief. S&W sees it foot and decides to shoot it. The lockless 2.5" 19 - just make it blued for goodness sake, so it is actually something people want.
I'm blown away that you've been able to get a nitride finished gun to show wear. Of the two finishes, there is no argument as to which is a more durable finish between Nitride and Cerakote. There are thousands upon thousands of examples of cerakote chipping off firearms. And yes, I've owned some myself. My nitride M11A1 was my EDC for three years, nearly every single day, in and out of holsters, car trunks, and metal (unlined) weapon lockers in various buildings (including the US Capitol bldg), and it never got a hint of wear on it. It looks brand new to this day. My issued Glocks with tenifer finish showed wear on the slides after years of carry...but a nitride gun...never.
I have seen some nitrided guns that weren't so durable, specifically, early Gen 4 Glocks and SIG P320s. Some police range instructors told me that they're seeing way more surface rust on the P320s than on the current approved competition (Gen 5 Glocks and M&P 2.0s).
