A couple more of my case colored Marlin's.
The top rifle is a 39A first model made in 1939. No bullseye, round barrel, S pistol grip, square lever, and beaver tail forearm.
The bottom rifle is a 39A 2nd model made in 1941 with a bullseye, rounded lever, and flat pistol grip.

The 2nd model is listed as having a semi-beaver tail forearm. My 2nd model has the same forearm as the 1st model. Perhaps a transition rifle until parts were used up.

The first model has the flat butt plate and the second model has a curved butt plate.

Let's see those 39A's! I know they're abundant among the forum members.

Beautiful rifles!
I just bought a 39a at auction last week. It has a kidney shaped brass insert in the pistol grip cap with the initials "RI". I've never seen this before. Serial number dates my 39 to 1951.

Those are awesome. I've never run into one with a case hardened receiver. All of mine have come from pawn shops. Many years ago they would show up regularly and for decent prices. I would buy them whenever funds allowed. It has been several years now since I've seen one.
