Greetings! For those of you that are using a Dillon SDB to reload cartridges utilizing a FRN bullet, which seating plug do you tend to use: the RN plug or the flat WC plug?

As always, thanks in advance for your help!

It depends on the profile of the bullet I’m using. Sometimes the RN plug will score a ring around the bullet but other RN profiles it won’t. I generally default to the RN but if I see damage to the bullet I’ll try the wadcutter plug.

Both should work ... but one may work better than the other depending on the bullet profile and plug profile .
The wadcutter plug will press on the flat spot ... the RN plug will press on the bullet sides , the round part ... but if not a perfect fit , may leave a ring around the bullet ... and that looks Wonky , but does little damage ... I don't like ring around the bullet .
Try both and see which you like ... I usually go with flat / wadcutter plug .
Don't forget you can custom fit the plug to the bullet shape with a small ball of epoxy putty ... the putty will conform to the bullet profile for an Exact Fit !

I have a SDB and for me it all depends on the bullet profile. How quickly does the bullet nose taper down or does it stay pretty wife at the nose where the ring contacts the edge and leaves a mark as some have said.

I am not loading that bullet so you just need see how it fits.

What cartridge are you loading? Only the 38/357 and 32 S&W Long/H&R sets include a wadcutter seating stem. Others include either an RM and SWC stem set, or SWC and truncated cone stem set.

That’s a good question. I reload 158 gr Xtreme round nose flat point. I think I have the round nose seater in it.
