It was easier pre 1996 for rifles and shotguns...in alot of states we where able to own assult rilfes etc AR15s,Ar10s,H&K 91 93 ,semi auot Thompsons,M1A 308,etc etc with hi cap mags...not anymore...the average shooter/hunter cant even have a pump or semi auto shotgun.I miss my Rem 870 & Mini 14.Thanks Aussie
It's ashame you have to go through all that just to own a gun.
I think sometimes we Americans take gun ownership and how good we have it for granted.

We had a mass shooting in Tasmania where one gunman shot 52 people and killed 35..that when the government introduced tough gun laws and we had a nationwide gun buyback in 1997.All long arms had to registered and every time you wanted to buy a gun you have to apply for a "Permit to acquire " and pay $30.00 for every permit..each permit represents one gun and it takes 4 to 5 weeeks to get the permit , and then you can go to the dealer and pick it up.You guys sure do have it good ...im am very envious let me tell you. I often joke with my wife about moving to Texas and it being the only place i could get away with wearing a cowboy hat and boots and a handgun at the same time ....lol.What happend in 1996?
Did you have to turn in your 870 and Ruger? If so, did the government give you any $$ for them?
