A final up date on my catarac surgery

I had had catarac surgery the first time on April 17 it had problems and they had to go back in the same eye on May 8 to remove some cortex they missed the first time, since then I have been using the 1 drop 4 times a day and 3 other ones twice a day, a month ago he looked and said lets give it another month. I went back to day and it is still a little swollen in side but thank goodness when he did my perscription when he would ask which is clear this or that one, well today I could say this one here, a month ago I could see no difference and today I could, in about a week I will have new glasses and can quit using a magnifing glass to read with and how great it will be. This type stuff only happens very seldom. Jeff

I'm very happy with my surgery. My Doc's goal is no glasses. Unfortunately astigmatism put the kibosh on that, but if necessary I could do without glasses with just a bit of eye strain. I'm going in for my glasses on the 5th of next month.
Looking forward to seeing what HD television looks like.

I had cataract surgery in both eyes about 5 yrs ago. Great results. I no longer need glasses except for reading. However, I do have to wear sunglasses when outside during the daytime. Eyes are very sensitive to sunlight.

Congratulations to both of you. So far, no problems for me, but my sister is going in sometime this month for her first one. She's kind of looking forward to the improvement in vision since her eyes are pretty bad as is.

The thought of eye surgery or anyone getting close to my eyes with anything sharp scares the you know what out of me. If the time comes, I hope they have good sedation.

Gary: I had both eyes done by a top notch eye surgeon in late 2011. I felt the same way about surgery around and in my eyes before it happened. Pretty nervous. But it actually proved to be a snap. I was awake during the procedure. Absolutely no pain or discomfort. You can't see them working out of the eye they are working on. They said they were pumping a mild sedative in me during the surgery, but I swear I did not feel any different. I think it was just saline solution. The surgery, itself, took only about 15 minutes. They had us lined up like an assembly line. The worst part is actually the inconvenience of doing all the eye drops for a few weeks after. I now can see as well as I did when I was a kid. And the kitchen appliances really look whiter than I thought they were. But I can't read without reading glasses. They do offer some lense implant options now that are supposed to remedy that. I would do it again without hesitation. Anyone needing and contemplating cataract surgery should find the best surgeon they can and go for it.

I had cataract surgery about 5 years ago: left eye 20/20 for reading, right 20/20 distance. (Prescription glasses for shooting to give binocular distance for wing shooting). Wonderful outcome!

I'm lucky in that my Dr. is a shooter and understands.

Same here. I now pass the eye test at DMV, and can drive without glasses, but can't read anything up close to save my life without glasses. Just like you I am very sensitive to sunlight now.

I had both eye's done last Oct. as a preliminary to a Retina surgery that needed to be done. I now have 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in the other, but due to needing a prism in my right eye and a need for correction for anything within 3 ft. I still wear glasses. I can get by shooting without glasses, but it gives me a headache if I go too long without the prism.

H Richard please dont shoot with out glasses, I was visiting with an older friend, at least my age and he asked me did I know you could get delux lens put in if you paid the difference and I told him yes I did, mine was standard. He has got the high priced lens put in in Jan and Feb. I asked how did they work, he said I can shut one eye and look at a white wall and the shut that eye and look with the other eye and he swears he can see a difference in the color, also he had no problem with the surgery at all. Glad every one has had good results. My mother had it several years before her death. From a kid till her surgery I always remember her in glasses, after the surgery no more glasses kind of strange after 50 years of seeing her in glasses then not and this was her only operation she had in her life, was scared to death until afterwards then said it was a breeze.

I guess everyone is different. Other than when my eyes were dilated I've had no problem with excessive brightness. I can sit out in the sun without squinting. But I'm gonna get shades anyway. Gotta look cool!!
Is it possible to look cool with a big belly and a bald head? I've given up on the leather bomber jacket.

I'll try to remember this if the time comes that I need this surgery.

I read somewhere that they do give a sedative, even for Lasik surgery. The reason is that even the most calm appearing patients have a lot of involuntary eye movement and they want to control that if possible.

Lasik is much less invasive than cataract surgery, so I can't imagine you didn't have something to keep you relaxed.

Anyway, hopefully my eyes will last as long as I do. Although I should be careful in what I wish for!
