Any folks on the forum know A good SW Smith in the PHOENIX area? May need to finally have the trigger/action smoothed on the 442. Don't know anyone to trust with it here in the area.

Thanks. :)

Well...I have never had any work done myself, although one of the used S&Ws I've bought was worked on here:

The Gunsmith Inc.

The gentleman's name is Nelson Ford. I've heard many good things about his work. If you talk to him...tread gently. He's a nice guy, but he doesn't mince words, and he doesn't like to deal with B.S. I've been in his place a couple of times, and he had come into the shop where I used to work on several occasions...and I've seen him turn guys away just because they ticked him off. He has (or at least, had) more work than he could do, so it didn't bother him to turn people away. He prefers to work exclusively on S&W revolvers, and Colt 1911s, but he'll work on a few others as time allows, and depending on how well he likes the customer. BTW...he's no fan of Colt revolvers, especially the Python.

Bottom line, he's colorful...but also a heck of a nice guy, and an excellent gunsmith.

Good luck!

Tim

Frank Glenn at Glenncustom.com is a great gunsmith. Very nice and knowledgable in S&W and many other guns. He's done a couple of trigger touch-ups for me, one on a 442, and has built several full customs for a couple of friends. He's a well known competition shooter and knows what it takes to make a gun work. Just a great guy to deal with, and fair.

PHOENIX GUNSMITH

Nelson Ford and I say that from personal experience. I live in Ohio and he will get all my S & W repair business!!

Sent Nelson an email, but never got a response yet. Must be busy. I'll see if Frank's around.

Hold off on that. Call Nelson at 602-992-0050, Tues-Sat, 11:30-5:00. He's the best; I use him for all of my revolver work. The guy is a little eccentric; very opinionated, totally politically incorrect, but he really knows Smith revolvers. I like it that he soaks up knowledge well, respects my general gun savvy and is quite willing to learn about things to which he hasn't had much exposure. I once did an article on the FP-45 Liberator pistol, and he wanted me to bring it over so he could inspect it, which I did - he spent about half an hour with it and talking to me. In turn, I totally respect his complete mastery of Smith revolvers and 1911 pistols. Once you get to know the guy, he's actually quite fun. Call first before you go over to his shop, and bring the gun with you. His rules - meant to be strictly observed!
