I'm looking forward to an aortic valve repair which will be done at our local VA. I had my latest heart cath done a week ago, which they found one artery 70% blocked and two 30% blocked, and part of a dental procedure yesterday with a follow up next week. Just curious how many of you guys have gone through that? Any complications?

I had a mitral valve repair in 2010. No problems with the surgery. Recovery is a little rough until they get the tubes out after that I had 2 bad days. The rest was easy, just have to take it easy for a while. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I had my mitral valve repaired in 2000:D:D All is well as it's MUCH better to have a repair than a replacement..

Hang on to your heart pillow .. it's gonna be you best friend for a week or so:D:D

And hopefully no one will say Gesundheit.

Yes, I have.

I didn't have a valve repair. I have had two replacements, this two open heart procedures. Also, three bypass grafts, two of which failed within six months, plus one stent. Lucky me, they now tell me that they can't do it again, because of scar tissue.

You need to be on the lookout for afib, which is common for valve patient's. See if valve replacement.com is still up they were chock full of information.

Stan, have had several 'cath's' last was about a month ago. They installed 3 stints, if the spelling is correct. The one before that, I started bleeding and would of bled out had it not been for my Nurse. God Love them.never had to worry about the dental thing, but the "Cath's" while uncomfortable are not too bad. Pay attention to your diet and drink some straight lemon juice water every day, one glass at least. :) Sadly, they can't fix everything. Be sure and keep your 'NITRO" with you at all times. Had my triple-by-pass 22 years ago. Still going, if a bit slower. :) Keep your weight down and at least walk everyday, even if it's just around the local Mall. I quit smoking and gained 50 pounds in a month. It's taken a L O N G time to loose that. GOOD LUCK to you. :)

I guess I shouldn't have said valve repair. I believe the surgeon said replacement with a pig valve. I get short of breath if I do too much and some chest pain. I've been putting this off for the last year so I guess it's time before I get a stroke or worse.

J.R......... I was told stents wouldn't do me any good because the valve was too closed up. The first cath I had was the groin area and the one last week was the wrist which was a lot better.

Had the pig valve and A-Fib clip. I try to exercise but sometimes other health issues prevent it. Still tire easily. Getting old is not for ninnies.

John Wayne told Johnny Carson that after he had a pig valve installed he
wanted to roll in mud holes.
