Found these roday and am considering buying but wanted some feedback first.

1) S&W Model 10-5 snubby, some significant blue wear on cylinder (looks like it sat on one side and slid around in drawer for a few years). Wearing N frame targets in great shape. $300 OTD.

2) S&W Model 57 (no dash) 6", in wooden presentation box w/ all paperwork and tools. 95-98% gun. $1100, maybe negotiable.

Most likely sold on the snubby as I just like it, wasnt sure if its a average going price these days. Sorry no pics until/if I purchase them. Thoughts from the pros??? Thanks in advance.

If it were me, and they are as described, AND I had the cash, I'd get them both - especially if the seller can be talked down on the $1100 price on the 41mag.

The shooter grade 10-5 snubby is definitely worth the $300 price tag.

A quick look at everyone's favorite auction site shows that the 95% + M57 with box, docs, and tools is worth at least a couple of hundred more than that - significantly more if it has one of the rarer barrel lengths.

Buying both you can make him a "package deal" offer. Maybe get them both for around $1200-$1300 for the pair.

Hi. My name is g8rb8 and I'm a S&W-aholic. You should get both.

More seriously, the price on the Model 10 is probably a fair price, but not great, considering the degree of bluing wear you describe. If you have a use for it then go for it but if not you could pass because a Model 10, even a snubbie, isn't so uncommon you won't run across another one. Your post says N-frame target grips in great shape on the Model 10 , so one advantage of getting the Model 10 would be after getting correct K-frame grips on it you would have an extra set of N-frame grips and therefor a good excuse for getting a N-frame revolver in need of new grips. Gotta think these things through. Just trying to help.

On the other hand, a model 57 in the condition you describe, in a fairly complete package, is not something you're likely to run across anytime soon. The $1100 asking price is a reasonable starting point and if they won't budge it's not a bad ending point either. This is one, even if you don't have a use for it, worth considering.

BC38 had a great idea. Go lay 12 fresh $100 bills on the counter for both of them and see if he bites. Or, if you have something you wish you could get out of your gunsafe, offer it up on trade in the mix. If the model 57 ends up being something rare like G8RB8 mentioned, you could always flip it at the model 10 might end up costing you zero in the end. Or, you go in with this idea, love the model 57, don't flip it and wind up with a hgih end safe queen that should only appreciate.

57 value

To me, it makes a difference if the 57 is an early, S serial numbered gun with Cokes. At $1100 that is a no brainer. Buy it.

If it's an N serial number, late '70s- early 80's before the -1, $1100 might be higher than I would go- unless I really wanted a 57!

Your fortunate to have these two options locally. I have been looking for a M10 2", any variant for 3 months and rarely see one in 95% condition with the original stocks for under $500. There is one on GB with a anniversary seal on it for $400 but that is as close as I have seen that compares to the price you mentioned and would be another $60 in shipping and FFL cost to bring. The 2" M10 snubbies are on the rise as any other potential CC revolver are. My guess is you have already purchased this in your thinking, hope it is still there.

So I revisited the idea today and took a few guns I planned on trading, unfortunatley we couldnt make a trade hapen and I could swing the cash without my wife placing me in solitary confinement. I also passed on the snubby just had to do a realty check and I simply have stronger desires...like this!!!!

As I was leaving I spotted a prestine S&W Model 37, nickle snubby tucked away in original box which included all the paperwork and tools! I quickly grabbed it and couldnt be happier!!! Pics below.

I have since done another reality check and will buy the Model 10 snubby later this week if its still around! Thanks guys.

Its a 6", N prefix. After closer inspection I'd grade it at 90% due to it having been shot more than I originally had noticed. Still a really nice gun though. Additionall the presentation case is intact, but needs reflocked.

OK, well, in that case, the $1100 price is pretty close to top of the market value. If it were a 4" or an 8-3/8" I think it would be worth a bit more, based on auction prices I'm seeing. Still not a bad investment though - especially if you could get the seller to come down $100-$200 on that price. The value on it isn't going anywhere but up as long as you don't bang it up or damage it.

In my area, as long as it would shoot, that M10 snub for $300 would be a no brainer though.
