I'm farther into the TV series than I am the books. Some of the characters are the same but it looks like TV made some changes. In the series Branch is his rival for the office of sheriff but in the books the burr under his saddle is Turk. Is this the same character?

Also, I take it that Lizzie in the series is Vonnie in the books?

From what I've seen the only comparison between the books and the TV series are some of the main characters names. Typically the TV series went off with its own story and left the books to fend for themselves. The books are a good read and I will keep reading till there are no more. The TV series was and is forgettable.

I like the series and I'll watch the next season when it comes out.

But I do chuckle at the murder rate in the county. It's literally the most dangerous place on the planet given the number of murders and the small rural Wyoming population of the county.

Less funny is the over blown conflict between the SOs office and the tribal government in general. I grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe reservation in South Dakota, and I worked in SD on and around the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservations (as a white guy no less) for several years. There were some fairly spectacular jurisdictional disputes (including several years where the tribe claimed the state highway patrol had no jurisdiction, even over white residents inside tribal borders) by and large there was never the animosity that is portrayed each week on Longmire.

I also like the TV series. They have been shooting new shows up in Northern NM. These will be shown on Netflix.
I hate to give the TV gods anymore money, but I want to see these new shows.
