Here comes the latest attempt to impose a so-called "assault weapon" ban. Senator Frank Lautenberg, along with his willing accomplices in the Brady Campaign (AKA: Handgun Control), has released a "study" entitled "Firearms, Explosives and terrorists: A Looming Threat: A Major U.S. Vulnerability."

The recent Heller and McDonald Supreme Court rulings, confirmed our Second Amendment rights, but because of the necessary narrow focus, left the door open for restrictions on our rights. We knew this fight was coming and here it is.

The NRA, SAF, GOA, JPFO, etc needs your help. If not already a member of one or more of the gun rights groups, please join. We need your help. These law suits to protect our rights are expensive.

By the way, if Harry Reid looses his Senate seat on Tuesday, and IF the Democrats keep the Senate majority, Frank Lautenberg will be the Senate Majority Leader, able to call the shots in regards to legislation.

I don't think Lousyberg will be in line for the majority leader position, Shummer or Durbin will. And they are just as bad, if not worse.
However, if Reid is defeated then that's one more philibuster(sp) potential to keep the Dems from ramming things thru.

Not that your point about belonging to gun rights groups isn't 100% accurate and should be followed by anyone who wants to keep their firearms.

You know this is so innocent looking...Like who could be for terrorists owning guns.....Especially since Queen Pelosi has declared that returning US service Vets and right wing extremests are terrorists and to be a right wing extremest means you call her Queen Pelosi

Yeah, and now we've got govt. types wanting to put PHOTOGRAPHERS on terrorist watch lists!! The idiocy never ends.

As stated, such legislation can be difficult to fight because doing so invites being labeled as being in favor of terrorists obtaining weapons easily.

The major problem is that the terrorist watch list is secret, names can be put on the list for no apparent reason, and getting removed from the list is next to impossible. Elected and appointed government officials could very easily use such a tool to effectively control anyone they wish, or any group that does not toe the line.

Such battles will never end. Those of us who intend to exercise our constitutional rights will be forced to fight such proposals over and over again. Membership in NRA, GOA, SAF, JPFO, etc allows us to stay informed and assist in resisting this type of assault on our liberties.

It's really sad that there is such a long list of total sleazebag Democratic Senators who could replace Reid. As was mentioned, Schumer, Durbin, Feinstein Slimestain, Boxer the Bitch and on and on. None of these jerks give a rip about citizen rights. Don

The only difference I've noticed between the two major parties is which of my rights they wish to infringe upon.

Put another way, both parties stink, vote for the one that offends you the least. In my case, it's an easy choice, voting against Obama and his cronies. Don

Why can't "known terrorists" be arrested for being "known terrorists"? How can they call up the Ft. Hood shooter when he was 1) not on the terrorist watch list (why not?), and 2) eligible to be a US Military officer?

And the arsenal that included a .22LR rifle is a hoot.

Using some secrete gov't list to restrict a fundemental right is bad news...

Is your name:

James Robinson?
Robert Johnson?
Gary Smith?
John Williams?
Edward Kennedy?
John Lewis?
Daniel Brown?
James Moore?
Robert Campbell?
David Nelson?
John Anderson?

or the same or similar to any of the other 1 million plus names on the watch list?

If so, you may soon loose your 2A rights.

Our country's watch list system is grossly bloated and unfair with over a million names -- including many unlikely suspects -- and not very effective as a security measure.

To be effective, and to be fair, terrorist watch lists must be tightly focused on true terrorists who pose a genuine threat.

The uncontroversial contention that Osama Bin Laden and a handful of other known terrorists should not be allowed on an aircraft is being used to create a monster that goes far beyond what ordinary Americans think of when they think about a "terrorist watch list." Now, it is proposed to be used to prohibit firearms purchases.

In May 2009, the Inspector General of the Justice Department found that 35% of the nominations to the lists were outdated, many people were not removed in a timely manner, and tens of thousands of names were placed on the list without predicate.

We can't have terrorist watch lists that affect people's rights without due process -- the right of innocent people to challenge their inclusion through an adversarial proceeding and get off the lists. But no such system has been created.

Bloated watch lists waste resources and divert their energies from looking for true terrorists. In a report from the Virginia Fusion Center leaked in April 2009, it was revealed that at least 414 encounters between suspected al-Qa'ida members and law enforcement officials were documented in the Commonwealth in 2007. Few believe there are actually more than 400 al-Qa'ida members in Virginia; more likely there were just 400+ false alarms related to bad watch list data -- which wasted innocent Virginians' time and distracted law enforcement from their mission.

The use of this bloated list with all its problems as a method to restrict a Constitution right is simply wrong. No one wants terrorists to be able to buy guns - and anyone on the list who isn't a citizen (or LPR) can't buy a firearm under current law anyway. Anyone on the list with a criminal background cannot buy a firearm under current law anyway. Anyone on the list who tries to buy a gun outside of their home state will be denied anyway. The use of the list to prohibit firearms purchases will only adversely affect US Citizens - many who are on the list by mistake or have a name similar to someone on the list.

Should those US Citizens with names suspiciously similar to someone on the terrorist watch list also be prohibited from voting? have their rights to free speech revoked? not be entitle to petition for redress? be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment? forced to quarter soldiers?

How many Constitutional rights do we want to take away because a name (or similar name) is on a bloated and dysfunctional government list??

.

Breaking news....many ideas, such as "due process", and the "right to privacy" were made very unfashionable by the patriot act.

People are generally inept and unable to take care of themselves, so they look to the .gov to ensure their safety in all aspects of their lives. Many people are more than willing to give up rights that they don't care about in order to obtain percieved safety from "threats", even if they are ambiguious or totally concocted.

It is not the enemy coming in the front door we have to watch for but the enemy coming in the back door while we watch the front door.

Many years ago, the price of coffee and gasoline jumped really high in a very short time. We all were focused on the price of both. While our attention was on those two items, the prices of sugar and meats were raised to uncharted levels. Weeks later the price of coffee and gasoline dropped to more reasonable levels but the damage done with other price increases as we were concerned with the evident things never came back down.

I worry less about Reid and what he does than what others do that we do not know about. There are back room deals cut and we never learn of them until it is too late.

What we need to do is look at the overall view instead of looking at one scene.
